I have heard from a reliable source that henceforth the European high will be known as 'Prozac Ridge'

I’m just wondering rather than having model verification stats, we should perhaps have poster verification stats. That way we can see who it’s worth paying attention to and who to disregard.....just a

I swear, reading through many of the comments, a lot of people believe we live within the arctic circle. I remember many of the winters of the late 70's and 80's and believe me not a lot has changed.

So cool and dry later in the month...

This all IMBY too. I'll take a colder, dry Christmas...no rain. No unseasonable mild temps please!

Looks like this December could crush the previous cloudiest December (2010). Only 9.8 hours of sun so far this month, with 18.5 hours the figure to beat.

I'd happily take a few dry sunny days over Christmas.

Interesting times on the MOD thread, been quite good this season for learning about the more complicated drivers that contribute to cold in the UK, regardless of the frequent posting of random ensemble members at +300000 hours 😂

If anything, it's served to highlight how many variables need to align around the hemisphere to bring lasting snow to these shores!

Are you sure it was December 2010 that was the cloudiest. Wasn't that one one of the sunniest on record?

More optimism again on the Model Chat thread, seems hype is growing for a potentially cold Christmas.

There's even a chance of a cold N/NWrly wind bringing in some snow showers - chance of a few sneaking my way via the Cheshire Gap?  👀

with all this talk of how similar 2020 has panned out to 2004, it’s funny how we may get a cold northerly bringing snow on christmas day, as did 2004. would hope the rest of winter 2020/2021 pans out colder than 2004/2005 though!

We need to start a bet on when we predict @Steve Murr will make his return. Assuming the cold charts continue, I say Thursday.

Mild for now but somehow the bbc is managing to predict snow two weeks in advance for the 27th. Some cold forecast just from Christmas Eve onwards actually ...similar sorts of temperatures we had at the start of the month

For a lot of country especially west it was super sunny but horrifically dull in London.

That's exactly why i am going for a cold end of winter. i can't remember now - negative is the cold waters in the NE pacific i think?  If it can stop that ridge building which then has a bad impact downstream in the Atlantic.

It means cooler waters close to the artic and north American coasts in essence, the horseshoe.

Not a strong link but preferable in my opinion.
