Well thats the end of the ski-ing season over here. Lifts packed away. So much snow still. Think I have never seen so much to end the season. Current freezing level 1400m. Nearby high orbital resort Obertauern  will stay open until the end of the month. So I time to sign off until the start of the next season and hopefully in the meanwhile find some warm ☀ . Best of British to all ski and snow nuts !

Afternoon all, been looking at a trip to Cesana in the Milky Way next Feb, does anyone have any experience of  that resort? I know it connects into the MW well, and therefore should be good. 1/2 term crowds will be the problem at that time I know, but my hands are tied from that pov

Decent falls of snow down to 1500m across the French Pyrenees today, which is just a tad higher than Ben Nevis in Scotland.

A bit of interest now for snow sport fans looking forward to the 23/24 season. After some very hot weather over the past few months , especially in the French Alps , some  welcome fresh snow  has fallen  , especially in the higher regions of Switzerland. The picture taken today 29th August 2023 on the Gornergrat, Zermatt. Here in Austria some snow settling on the higher resorts nearer to the Swiss borders. Looks like the first half of September to turn cooler than normal, so will be interesting to see any snow retention ( above 2500m )

A generous 40cm of snow at nearly 2400m in the Rätikon mountain range, western Austria.

Well the new ski-ing season is drawing ever closer. Always get excited about the prospect of snow and a new season. The picture below is enough to wet the appetite ( not the present ) but from a few years back showing the perfect dream run in the Utah Back Country. Yesterday we had a covering of snow in the village but now melting away. Snow still showing on the peaks. The lift teams already starting to test the cannons and check out the lifts. No date yet to when opening starts but Obertauren usually the first in the region when the snow and cold arrives.

Today sees the opening of the new World Cup Ski-ing  23/24 season held in Solden. Snowfall this week in the Canadian Rockies will bring the opening of the new season next weekend. Picture from a couple of days ago from Mt Norquary ski resort above Banff Town. Maybe time to open a new seasonal thread 23/24 @J10@Blessed Weather?

Great idea. A lovely pic there to wet the appetite for the coming season. 👍

I'm taking a break in West Wales atm and the mobile coverage very poor, but will start a new thread Monday when back home unless Julian has done the deed in the meantime.
