Yes, I heard this after the BBC News at 6 tonight. I was a bit surprised and wondered whether they  meant the wettest October day on record or the wettest day covering the whole of the UK. Probably the latter. It was certainly wet nationwide but nothing like the South of France. Alex has a lot to answer for!

I've only got 4 years of data but 3rd October was by a country mile the wettest day I've recorded. 43.2mm compared to he previous record of 30.0mm.

In some areas of the Midlands it didn't stop from Thursday afternoon until Sunday evening.....Oxfordshire , East Buckinghamshire and SW Northamptonshire.

Hence why all the rivers went into flood almost simultaneously....there were some very worried boaters about, and several boats lost

Nothing special here 24.7mm well down the list of heavy rainfall for the day.
