A quick run in to the MOD thread still sees people on about snow events, however they appear finally to have grasped the fact south of the M4 rain is forecast in the outlook as the fronts move in across the country..with a light breeze now in from the SW temperatures are climbing, as Mapantz noted 4.5°C and cloudy...

Yep, lovely cold rain  here in South Devon, like we haven’t had enough already!  I think it will take something pretty special to get snow down and around these parts these days, it’s just not cold enough and hasn’t been at any point this past week or so

Nice and toasty her at 5.2c.

Don't want anymore rain, already over 140mm for the month.

Likewise! In fact, it's been the wettest year since 2012 here... despite a few prolonged dry periods between April and September.

I do like this! Some snow showers around in the next couple of days for a few of us down south. Notice a nice curl to the system when it reaches the Isle of Wight on New Year’s Day!

Touch and go but latest nw radar shows some wintriness on the high ground over exmoor and dartmoor in its most recent update. Looking at Hants. I'd say if the system comes in after dark and precipitation is heavy enough then winchester northwards could get a dusting. Dewpoints need to lower by about 1c which is doable.

Squeaky bum time for our region with what some of the weather models are showing into next week with 'battleground' scenarios, that's very high risk, high reward for us in the far south & south west.

Wouldn't mind a repeat of Dec '81, that had low pressure systems just passing to the south but not too close that the cold air was pushed away from the far south

Bit colder further north, working outside in the Slad Valley near Stroud, little patches of snow around where I am, the odd field has half snow cover on the higher hills. Sorry it’s milder further south and west, but from a back yard point of view the last 3/4 days are like the start of some winters I remember as a child in the early 80’s - mix of cold, frost, rain, sleet, snow on the hills. Yesterday it snowed in Gloucester which is very low down, and yet it rained in Stroud. See what occurs in the next few weeks!

I've asked my dad before about memorable snow when he was younger and he mentioned '81 in particular. Blizzard conditions and could barely see in front of him walking down his street. Definitely wouldn't mind a repeat of that

Yes my wife had recently moved, from Zimbabwe, to a small Somerset village with her parents. It proved to be something of a climatic shock!!  The village was cut off by deep snowdrifts for many days --with helicopters from RNAS Yeovilton dropping essential food supplies for the villagers.

Yep, can be very good for us. We just need some good luck for once.
