Rain Data wrong

I have a Vantage VUE.  It is more than five years old and has worked well until recently. A few days ago it started showing a continual increase in rainfall accumulation and the message"It's Raining Cats and Dogs" even in sunny, dry weather.  There are new batteries in the console and remote unit. Any thoughts on how to fix this?  Thanks.  Dave

Did you clean the rain tipping spoon?

Hello Tom.  Yes, I have just now cleaned the unit for the first time since putting it up!  From reading through the various posts I see that regular cleaning is required.  Since cleaning about three hours ago, the unit is being well behaved,  We are having rain showers off and on today.  It will be a good test to see if it has been restored to proper function.  Thanks for your advice.

Happy to report that the rain gauge is working normally after cleaned it.
