Didn’t know we was expecting an avalanche today 🤔

Stonking day for storms. Had two cells with continuous thunder [but mostly no visible lightning again]. Here's some pictures of one storm that I tracked as it progressed up the M11 which produced some

Am enjoying a weekend away 60 miles S of Prague in the pretty town of Písek, the storm front that came in this evening was dramatic!

Who here thinks Net Weather should invest in a streaming webcam and set it up at the bottom of Zak M's garden 😛 Would probably have made enough add revenue over the last week to keep it running for a decade.  🤪

I was actually thinking about setting up a webcam and point it to the south funnily enough lol.

Anyway - that cell over Leighton Bizzard has grown in size and I might’ve heard the faintest rumble from it...

If you’re lucky/unlucky enough to witness a strike close by in a quiet place then you actually hear the crackle in the air just before it happens which seems odd given that light moves so much faster than sound but that’s what i remember from 20 odd years ago ....

Tuesday night last week during that fantastic storm we has in Macclesfield, my daughter and I heard a loud hiss immediately before a dazzling white flash in front of us. Anyone else witnessed that?

Apparently it's been raining over me for the last 10 mins... It's a Lie... A Lie I Say!!!!!!  *eats 🎂*

Probably just picking up the stupidly low, (extremely dark), skuddy looking cloud base.

EDIT: And the moment I post this it starts to spit, ruddy typical 😛

Not me but it does take a while for lightning to go upwards and because it meets in the middle that's the positie and negative charges together

No where near there, but I do remember hearing a 'staticky crackle' noise a split second before the TV aerial of the house below got hit, must be a good decade ago now.

Anyone know what that weird cloud in the distance is?! 🤔

I’ve heard in termed a ‘bell cloud’ (similar time a shelf cloud) and it’s usually associated with a particularly strong down draft. It’s called such because (funnily enough) it resembles the bottom of a bell protruding from the base (as opposed to a wall cloud that often resembles the base of pyramid and has much straighter edges). I saw and photographed a phenomenal example in Kansas in 2010 - it swept right overhead and was accompanied by a blast of cold air and spots of super cooled rain.

Bf reported thunder in Sevenoaks about 15 mins ago from that cell moving north between Maidstone and Sevenoaks. Nothing on lightning detectors however.

Thunder and heavy rain in Quinton, Birmingham right now. After such a dull start, these always come as a surprise.
