Still no rain here in Sandbach v dark with a couple of flashes of lightning and low rumbling thunder. Just seen 3 fire engines 🚒 shoot past going Middlewich/ Northwich way don’t know if related as there were lots of lightning strike house fires across Cheshire last night.

A house in Macclesfield was struck in the very early hours and set afire, had to be put out by fire crews, as far as I  know the occupants were ok.  A property in nearby Prestbury also caught fire after it was struck too.

Yes hazy conditions like this often bring magnificent sunsets, due to all that pollution blowing in from off the continent.

The sky here is so yellow the pic doesn’t do justice. Rain too

All the action is in the West Midlands, Birmingham and the south of the region tonight. Nothing anywhere else though. And unusually the south-east has done very poorly for thunder this time, and ironically, they’re the ones that need a thunderstorm the most, to cool things down.

Yes very yellowy sky here too looks poised for rain and thunder but none so far.

Oh Im chuffed for the guys out west, esp as they tend to struggle for snow in winter. Its just thunderstorms can be so amazing ,and I've missed them by like 20 miles...

Cheers nws. Yeah, you'll get snow as compensation in winter whilst we get cold rain. I will defo miss the snow we used to get when I lived over that way but had to move for work reasons.

Yeah, just observing this, quite odd. Really still at the moment too.

Gone very dark here, nothing really on the radar near me but we have had a bit of thunder just now. Shows how it can change so so quickly.

Resigned myself quite a while ago to not getting a dicky bird of stratospheric action tonight, this far east of the region.  Oldham's on the verge of local lock-down and I think the weather is giving us a wide berth as well.  Have fun out to the west, and anyone doing that journey down the A483 through the spine of Wales (which I have done many times to visit family) will be in for an interesting journey.

Saw the sun setting.

Anyone notice the radar? Nothing on the radar from  Wolverhampton to Stoke on Trent at 8pm, 40 minutes later, virtually filled in.

Not expecting anything but it shows how quickly these things can develop

Nothing in Crewe apart from the odd rumble of thunder and lightning to the north west and south west
