However it does look like it'll be the coldest  period of weather since 2013

I agree but that’s hardly much to beat is it!!! Standard UK winter here - the odd cold snap with snowfalls in some places but nothing long lasting, major or significant. I am now awaiting the children to reply with their laughing emojis etc. At least when I first joined the community over 17 years ago people were far more mature.

I remember the days of the bbc will it snow forum... there wasn’t much maturity there if I remember correctly ‘will it snow in’...........

Good - showing as sleet on NW Radar  - temps still to drop bodes well.

Any snow here in the NW will fall chiefly to higher ground in the usual spots. There could be the odd sleety or wet snow shower in the larger conurbations at lower levels but nothing significant to write home about. Going forward we will be entering a period of colder weather however in the short-term the prospects of any serious winter weather looming are sadly a long way off.

Shower stream has definitely moved south a bit but but even at my altitude it’s still very wet and struggling to stick.

better than rain though I suppose.

Better effort than here although it’s only just started doing anything over here.

Yes it’s just really frustrating whenever I make a post which goes against the fantasising Narnian type winter weather the children hit back with crying eyes emojis and such like. The maturity levels on the forum from a lot of members is quite concerning.

Its turning more to snow now I can see flakes falling.

If its not heavy, colder uppers must be here.

@Day 10 I tend to agree with you I think the rest of the winter has a good chance to be very interesting possibly similar to 2013 although perhaps not as severe, just have a feeling.

I have a report on my thoughts for  tonight coming shortly.

The Beast from the East in 2018?

Now that was damn cold, better blizzard in the 2013 version but for bitter cold and ice, 2018 won hands down.

I find it amazing some people seem to forget about that, I guess technically it occurred more in spring than winter but that is one of the best ever weather set ups I have ever seen, may not of lasted too long but it was still a week of quite cold weather with very very low uppers.

I think people also forget we had chilly spells in recent times but few and far between.

2010 was one to remember too -we didn’t get much snow but I remember a whole month where night time minimums were around minus 14 and day time maximums didn’t get above minus 7 from around the first week in November till the first week in December

Can't recall when I last saw snow whipping off fields around here only about 20/30m asl. It was perishing in that wind and that wind was really strong
