Last year September started the wet months which carried till March this year.

Regionally , it actually started in June. All summer months last year were wetter than average.

And it looks as though this summer has gone the same way.

Very stormy in the northern lake district. Certainly not a day for being on the tops.

Looking like turning a bit more Autumnal over the next week or so. Some pretty frequent weather systems coming in from the Atlantic. The final nail in the coffin of Summer 2020. Which for the most part has been a poor one. Really noticing the light levels decreasing now too.

Yes it looks pretty crap doesn’t it? 16/17°C, rain or showers. We haven’t had much of a summer this year anyway. Although at least we got some warmth in August. August I think August will go down as the best month of the summer here. Not that thats saying much lol.

Yesterday was a lovely day, just about perfect temperature wise, plenty of sunshine, a nice summer breeze. Was comfortable outside in shorts and a t-shirt. Plenty of other people out enjoying the weather. Unfortunately it can’t continue sadly.

Living up north you get lovely scenery and nice views but you sure do you pay for it when you consider we get about 300+ days of autumn and about 15 days of summer lol.

On the plus side, this type of weather will keep away the visitors who have no idea of how to behave in these beautiful wilder areas of this great country

Stop press...Oldham has avoided complete COVID lockdown.

So no respite from the visitors who cant or don't understand how to behave.

Rain doesn't put them off.

It does rather feel like we are marching steadily towards Autumn now with this weather, and the nights drawing in. That said, it is not uncommon for a late warm settled spell to occur in September. I have to say though that these temperatures are more my cup of tea compared to the heat of last week as on a personal level it makes outdoor activities more bearable and is much more comfortable for sleeping.

Well, storm Erin is certainly making her presence known here, strong and very gusty winds, must be gusting to at least 50 mph. Wonder what it’s like on the west coast?

What a vile morning.

the last few days wouldn’t have been out of place across the 9 months of the year that don’t make up summer

44mph at Blackpool, the highest wind speed of the day in the NW. 8.30pm and looking out at the most gorgeous sunset!

Was that the highest average wind speed or the highest gust speed because I could’ve sworn some of the gusts yesterday afternoon were touching 50 mph.

You were lucky to see a sunset last night, last evening was overcast here, lights on at 8:45 pm.

It’s been fairly decent here this week up until yesterday, pleasantly warm with sun at times and rain at times, just normal mixed summer weather really. Today is blustery with a few showers but at least we’re getting some sun.

Either you’ve been lucky or 10 miles south I’ve been unlucky today as we’ve had heavy showers pretty much throughout.

a bit of sunshine as well but it’s been sunshine between the rain rather than the other way around.
hopefully tomorrow will deliver something better.

No today hasn't been great here either. It started off not too bad but the showers have got heavier and more frequent as the day has gone on. Right now it's been bucketing down for at least the last half hour here. It's also felt really chilly and damp as well. Tommorow doesn't look much better sadly.

Outlooks bad for anybody wanting warm and dry weather for the next week or two (cool and unsettled). Would be nice to have some warm sunny weather in late August and early September, after what has been, let's be honest, a pretty poor summer with little warmth, but we can't change the weather, so we'll just have to put up with it. I always start to feel a little depressed at this time of year, what with the nights rapidly drawing in and the weather getting cooler. Today felt distinctly chilly and autumnal after getting used to the warmth of recent weeks. Not looking forward to Autumn and winter!

Roll on winter as I’d be pretty sure that if they had been snow, today’s showers would have missed me completely or been light and then pepped up again on the other side of the Pennines.

we’ve had some poor days this summer but I can’t think of many worse than today.

The neighbors are having a barbecue outside in the pouring rain, they must be bonkers!

Hasn't been a really decent August up here for sometime. When I mean a decent August, the majority of the month is dominated by dry, sunny weather.

Even August 2018 struggled. Rostherne near Manchester airport, August 2017 and 2019 were sunnier than August 2018 and so was August 2014!

Last hot and dry August I can remember was 1995.

I’m sure we have had some since but that one sticks in my mind as the last few weeks of a long hot and dry summer.

Not a great outlook for any warmth. A cool and unsettled end to Summer looking odds on. ECM even showing a bit of Arctic air dropping south towards the end of the run. Watch September be the warmest on record.
