Not great then

Doesn't look too bad for the Sussex's - 500 -700 J/kg.

The scale on some of these charts are horrendous when trying to deal small amounts of Cape.

The sky is looking the part!

Also, what type of cape are we seeing on that chart?

Fingers crossed for tonight, just wondering if going out to photograph any storms is ok, any thoughts folks?

Was just about to say the same! Almost impossible to tell the difference between 0 & 1000j/kg

You guys must have poor colour rendition on your devices?! Granted, it's not the best, but I can see the contours fine.

Not every thunderstorm is a supercell, granted. But this certainly has the characteristics.

  • -Overshooting cloud tops
  • Signs of rotation
  • Intense hail core/outflow boundary to the SE

Could be some intense rainfall, hail & frequent lightning where this thing makes landfall, assuming it can maintain integrety as it moves north.

Ultimately though we're not that interested in the CAPE values as they are surface based?

That's MUCAPE, not SB.

It’s fine, as long as you're not meeting anyone else I can’t see how it’s even 10% as bad as all those cops standing having a laugh together on that bridge in London yesterday

Models at this time range I find aren’t incredibly reliable. I find it helpful on days (and more especially time ranges) like this to look at the performance of current storms. The cell approaching Dungeness, together with the rampant cell service over the Channel Isles give us a decent indicator of where the nose of mid level instability actually is. Currently it appears to be over the Channel still.

The sky here currently, I must say, does look quite encouraging - it’s flooded with Ac, but not quite the textbook AcCas I look for - still some patches, like this, do have some vertical component which is always welcome

Yeah that's what I thought, I don't intend to drive anywhere.

Good luck to all wishing for a storm

Tonight is quite remarkable actually in that I really have no idea if and when storms may survive/make landfall in the UK. It's all down to radar watching at the moment and does look fairly promising in my opinion. Majority of the Hi-Res models have most of these storms dying out before making it half way across the channel so should be interesting!

I've just picked up a lightning strike. I'll wait and see where it got that from.

I hope you were wearing protective gloves!

Sorry for the stealing of that joke @Another Kent clipper

Most lightning activity edging E-NE but precip moving more N-NE it seems?

Kent looking like it might be clipped by that storm moving N from around Calais.
