Upcoming High Pressure (Potentially record equaling / breaking)

Recommended Posts

This is a thread to monitor the pressure recordings during the upcoming spell of high pressure over the UK, I think the main focus will be on Wales as indications are that the pressure will be close to equaling the record if not breaking it. Wales Highest: 27 January 1992, Sennybridge, Powys 1049.2 hPa.  nmm-2-75-0.thumb.png.e22adb05565ca882877077f40a6a5056.png iconeu_uk1-2-77-0.thumb.png.2147504fe5bdc0a684a5495adf7bf5e9.png Cardiff ensembles as an example

La météo en temps réel et prévisions météo pour la France, Observations météo, modèles numériques et logiciels météo (GFS, ECMWF, UKMO, GEM, AROME, ARPEGE, JMA)

I will keep monitoring and update if any changes but as things stand if there are any Welsh members with their own weather stations that could provide pressure readings on Sunday / Monday that would be great. 😀

The highest pressure I've recorded here was 1045.0hPa on 7th February 2012.

The GFS has us breaching 1048hPa on Sunday night so there's definitely a chance we might beat that.

1044.84 is my current stations record. My all time record is 1046.06 back in December 2014.

Stephen Burt did a detailed report on the Highest of the Highs back in 2007, I don't think any of the records he listed have been broken since but no doubt the Met Office will be watching this.

Here's the web page, with a link to the full report. I have no idea why it complains about cookies, which are on both there and here - clicking the link does work though.

Does your station have options to input altitude, because if not you'll be seeing absolute pressure which does get lower at elevation, if you're altitude adjusted you should still be receiving the relative sea level pressure

No reporting METAR station is reporting above 1047hPa (rounded) at 3pm. 1046 here and also Southampton Airport, slowly rising again. I'm taking the opportunity to monitor and compare my readings for accuracy!

I'm at 1048.5hpa with my vantage pro2 set at 70m asl my elevation, but it could be reading a tad to high.

Closest Wunderground one to me is at Milton a few miles away, pressure actually dropped a tiny bit between 12ish and 1:30ish but now steadily back on the rise, 1,046.73 at the moment.

Highest METAR station is still 1047 hPa (rounded). Several SYNOP stations now report 1048 though, in Wales, N Devon and as far east as Pershore. Mumbles 1048.4 at 4pm is the highest I noticed, looks like the official Welsh record will go soon.

Welsh official record (1049.2) could provisionally go about 6pm, Mumbles was 1048.8 at 5pm with a tendency of +0.4hPa/hour.

We are at 1048mb here in South Wales currently. I have just noticed quite a few digital weather stations only go up to 1050mb. What happens if it goes over that?

This one has now surpassed the record at 1049.41 hpa. Found 2 others that show 1053 hpa and 1054 hpa but a bit suspicious to me seems a bit too high?

In the official stations, top at 6pm seems to be Sennybridge, 1049.1 followed by Mumbles 1049.0 ...  nearly there in Wales! Provisionally of course, I bet some stations are out by upto maybe half an hPa but we shall see.
