Coldest minima winter 2019-2020 season - recordings and thoughts

The UK meteorological winter is underway.

-10.3C recorded at Tulloch Bridge.

Think this is the lowest min so far this season. Also the -7.7 degree in Shap coldest min of season so far in England. Good to see these achievements being felt on the first day of winter. Tonight doesn't look as cold at least in Scotland, but possibly colder in England.

The Telegraph said lowest min Sunday morning was -11 degrees Fort William, is this right? Quite unusual for such a location to record lowest min, and not places further inland.

Tulloch Bridge was the lowest official reading. Highly unlikely Fort William was lower?

Agreed,

I couldn't find anything on the Met Office social media to support a -11C for Fort William at the weekend.

Must correct the Telegraph then! What was the figure for Tulloch Bridge?

-10.3C at Tulloch Bridge is the lowest so far.

Tulloch Bridge = Fort William as far as the telegraph are probably concerned, after all it is virtually the same place (actually 18miles apart, with the former being higher and further inland). Since that's the case then quite easy to see how -10.3 = -11C, if you don't care about accuracy like we do.

50 days have now passed, and that temperatures is still the lowest for winter 2019/20.

Yes, thought a good time to resurrect this thread, especially given I suspect a few spots last night might have recorded there lowest min of the season so far.. good to see if anyone had.

Alas, yes quite sad 50 days have passed, and this thread has had no activity. Had the current high been forecast to ridge north and hold, then quite possibly we would be about to see a lower min than that recorded at Tulloch Bridge.

I seem to recall winter 15/16 produced the lowest min of the 'season' in November? Correct if wrong. In 2001 the lowest min occured in early March, a very low -21 degrees from a northerly.. Not often happens the lowest min falls outside the three winter months. Lots of time left yet to beat the Tulloch Bridge figure.

The earliest date for the coldest temp of the season is 14th November 1919 with an incredible -23.3 which is colder than any reading for 35 years except that of 1995.

the latest is March 20th with -16.1 in 1930.

Winter 15/16 was -14.1 Breamar 14th Feb,the last time November was the coldest was 1988 with -11.6 deg 22nd November
