Invasion of the Ladybirds: 15th August 1869

Recommended Posts

A report I discovered from 15th August 1869

"Remarkable clouds of ladybugs came across  the English Channel and settled all over the southeastern counties."

From the Times of August 1869

I remember there were huge numbers of Ladybirds locally in the summer of 1975 but not quite on the scale the 1869 article describes.

In 1975 harvest was early and there were so many ladybirds on the fields that trailers of grain coming in were up to 10% ladybirds as they separated out with the grain and were mostly still alive if not buried in grain for too long.
