Posted this just now in South West regional thread; worth repeating in here:

Midday, 11th June.

9.5c and chucking it down, with a biting NE wind.

I cannot remember a June day like this in my lifetime. I'm sure someone will find a few in meto historical data.

You wouldn't normally think about windchill charts in June ....

I have the strangest feeling this summer will pan out very much as summer 1997 did - a very wet June, a mixed July with some dry warm spells but showery interludes too, and a very hot August.

You heard it here first!

Hope not. That summer was horrible.

Warm sunny spells in August, but June and July seemed to be cloudy and humid.

Flood water will be rising soon and the coldest june day in many many years single figure maxes easily today.

I've been a home owner for almost 32 years and i've never clicked the central heating on in the month of June.......until now. Just switched it on to take the chill off.

Unbelieveable!

Well 11c yesterday and 13c today. Two of the very worst days back to back in high summer I can ever remember. The sooner it clears off the better.

It's true; August 1997 had a CET of 18.9, only marginally cooler than August 1995.

As I said yesterday temperatures will respond in the sunshine...here in Essex today we were just shy of 21c which was certainly warmer than forecast!

13c in Cambridge?...well that must have been under cloud and rain, shows you big differences in locations not that far away.

8c in Buxton right now, a temperature around which it's been hovering all day in on-and-off moderate rain and a brisk, cold wind.

Not the nicest of days but as far as December goes I've seen worse.

Even i must admit, today has been what i'd class as fresh for mid June! Seen quite a lot of crop damage, not good at all. To much of the much needed rain can be a bad thing in many areas.

A good day for a hot coffee watching the world go by.

Has anyone else totally written June off and is now just hoping for an improved July?

Yep, incredible contrast - left work in London around 4pm with temp circa 20c and arrived back in St Neots in belting drizzle and thermometer was reading 10.4c!  Amazing stuff over the shortish distance.

I know August 1997 was a good month. I was more in shock that a hot and sunny August is even possible, as we haven't seen one for 16 years here!

From 2006-present, only one August even saw 200 sun hours (2016).

Models are struggling with this pattern.

The forecast does show an improving picture with temperatures recovering to normal or even slightly above average after the weekend, but still a lot of cold, wet weather to go through first.

This is why it’s always good to book a holiday abroad, you can’t rely on this country to have nice weather. Hopefully July and August are better - dry, useable weather is obviously very important during the school holidays.

The garbage outlook continues.

As long as those heights remain over Greenland, we are screwed. I'm writing off Summer on the 12th June. We all know it will arrive in September when it's too little too late.

Roll on March and Spring.

Even 2012 saw 30c in July and August. I hope we get a repeat of 2012 rather than 2007.

I take 25C max. and a fortnight of  dry and pretty sunny weather. 2012 seeing the 30C benchmark reached does not make up for what was a rank summer.
