Chucking it down!! We've had around 6mm from the rain so far which has come in from the north sea. Not a huge amount, but given the situation in the Yorkshire area even small amounts are going to add to the ongoing issues.

The PIT Posted November 8, 2019 Location: Sheffield South Yorkshire 160M Powering the Sheffield Shield Weather Preferences: Any Extreme Location: Sheffield South Yorkshire 160M Powering the Sheffield Shield Share Posted November 8, 2019 (edited) Looking at the GFS it still shows a fairly unsettled week but luckily no sign of any really prolonged heavy rain so the flood level should slowly decline remaining see some snow and then the Peak District and perhaps at low levels with very very lucky. Looking at the flood defenses round Meadow hell it looks like they build them too small and that lessons from 2007 haven't been learnt. No doubt some questions will be asked about this and the parties to plan this will be glad that the general election is on the way to public attention will be diverted. One wonders how long it will be before the next flood as we continue to build on floodplains failed to complete proper maintenance and basically cost cuts to make the budget ignoring the fact that long-term the cost will be greater. The PIT Posted November 9, 2019 Location: Sheffield South Yorkshire 160M Powering the Sheffield Shield Weather Preferences: Any Extreme Location: Sheffield South Yorkshire 160M Powering the Sheffield Shield Share Posted November 9, 2019 (edited) Had a look at the local park. The waters have long receded but you can see why it flooded. They had to take the top railings of the Culvert to allow the water to drain away. Further upstream you can see where neglect is made the anti-flood mechanisms pointless because they haven't simply been cleared out. Some pictures below. The Deborah's hat that has been brought down shows how powerful even small streams can get. It would help when felling trees and branches they will let fall into the stream. The waters from this stream were powerful enough to flood Chesterfield road and was down wooden fences on the other side of the road.
