Met office text forecast?

Today

Plenty of wintry Showers some falling as snow even to low levels Thunder possible

In the heavier showers

Tonight

Frequent heavy showers turning increasingly to snow showers may band together to

Give local accumulations of snow.

Manchester airport TAF backing the above up.

Going to busy day and night in here I think.

Left the house in sleet to walk the hounds and after two thunder claps it has turned to heavy snow.

A topping of sleety slush has left a covering here, might be more substantial over the tops of the hills to the east.

Bah! The lovely little dusting that we had has now been washed away! Horrible, cold nasty rain! Now and again in heavier bursts I can see the odd flake... That's it I guess! What an absolutely manky winter...unless it redeems itself in the next ten days...

Yes, those with altitude should surely see a dusting of the white stuff later today, perhaps even to lower levels too.

All on the irish sea later ..

Radar has Irish Sea looking more active - some good (drizzle?) streamers forming :oldlaugh: hopefully more favourable for snow if temps drop later on today.

One thing that is noticeable is that it is less windy than it was two weeks ago with that failure. Its a slacker gradient.

Going off  recent times, it seems slacker wind flows are more likely to deliver than strong ones.

Worth having a look at the NW Radar - some good pinks forming inland at elevation.

On the Western flank of Winter Hill, we had a smidgeon of wet snow about an hour and a half ago.  Just having something which briefly turned sleet, went back to rain and is now snow.  Nothing settling.

Sunset onwards will be the best time, GFS has temps around freezing say 30miles inland by 9pm so anything falling should be snow by this time.

Defo more marginal nearer to  the coast though.

The birds are lively this morning.... bird feeders and trees busy with robins, blue tits, long tailed tits and wrens

Aye..

Best bet for coast dwellers is a screaming polar north westerly with uppers of -8/-9 ...

Rare but not unheard of, maybe next winter ..
