40 knots gusting 75 at MAN now.

Highest gust speed I have seen from MAN since I got into this weather lark back in 2007.

I suspect the readings reflect the wind speeds during the passing of the squall line.

Same for me. Even in the 2007 storm I only remember 55 knot gusts reported.

EK17 having another go now...

EK17 having another go now...

1350 METAR on January 18th 2007 reported 65 knot gusts - memorable as it took the felt off my shed roof and some on my street lost a couple of roof tiles.

Looks like EK17 has given up with MAN and is off to his alternate.

I see some moron thought today would be a good day to tow his caravan over Woodhead Pass. Blown over and closed the road to everyone now.

The stupidity of some people absolutely beggars belief........Just why???

That's the one. I have a video of foot high waves on the ship canal. Thelwall and Barton bridges were both shut and the traffic was stationary around Trafford Park, but I just rode my bike home past them all with no difficulty.

Raining again

Thankfully it’s stopped raining here but it’s still windy.

although the Irwell peaked slightly lower than Boxing Day 2015 the flooding here seems a fair bit worse than it was then

I think Tuesday is looking the most interesting day for seeing snow showers, hard to put details down but that's the day where the peak of the upper air temperatures will occur. As usual with the Irish Sea, showers tend to be small and isolated unlike what the Atlantic and North Sea can produce so some places may miss out on any shower activity.

Be nice to see falling snow for the first time this season. No chance of it settling unfortunately thanks to everywhere being waterlogged for the umpteenth time since November!!

Heading for Amsterdam?

Nope, Frankfurt.

Lucky the City match was postponed, I bet someone on that flight was heading there.

Manchester to Frankfurt, that's some divert but no doubt the nearest sensible option - weather at AMS wasn't great either.
