Winter weather chat, moans, banter and ramps

Recommended Posts

Approaching 60 I've been lucky to have experienced a few classic winters, I for one ,certainly don't begrudge the youngsters some snow if it comes along. Frosty settled weather will do for me as well , anything except this relentless wind , rain and mild  crud. Rant over , Merry Christmas to all.😀

Been a pretty poor December so far, 2 slight ground frosts and the coldest day had a max of 5.1c (which is nothing to write home about)...surely January has to be better than this damp squib of a month and get me my first air frost of the season? (talk about lowering the bar).

Nasty mild December so far and the charts are looking disgusting to the bitter end. From The feast of the Epiphany, 6th Jan, there will be a noticeable lengthening of daylight, three more weeks after that and we will be almost February.:wallbash:

Truly horrible run up the Christmas here, sunshine and temps 11-15c!:bad:

The only good thing about the weather in the run up to the festive season, and during Christmas itself is the lack of extreme winds.  Otherwise it's fairly much typical December sludge.  Roll on New Year/mid January/February/March (delete as applicable!)

So far it's been a very dull winter in Scotland. We had a little bit of snow last Saturday, even settled on higher ground, but then on Tuesday temperatures soared to over 10C and everything melted. The rest of the time it has been so mild. We had a couple of colder days prior to last Saturday with daytime temps of around 2-3C, but the rest of the time temperatures have been hovering between 8-10C in Edinburgh. And a lot of rain. Very depressing. Yesterday I decided to go for a walk in the Pentland hills as it was supposed to be dry, but it rained heavily for most of the morning and afternoon and I came home soaked. This endless Atlantic weather is getting on my nerves, NW winds are quite common here and bring sunny, crisp weather. Where are they this year?

People shouldn’t throw in the towel in December. I don’t lose hope until mid February. Still time for things to turn very cold and who knows, maybe another 1979 or 87 spell is heading our way.

Looks like the Hunt for cold weather thread has been hijacked, or at least it doesn’t want to load on my safari!

The full moon coinciding with the winter solstice meant it was almost as high in the sky as it can get, hence the moonlight appeared stronger. Plus it was near perigee so would have appeared slightly larger.
