Might be why the MO automated forecast is now showing snow for Sunday.

The updated MetOffice warning is nothing more than a normal wintry day with some snow about.

"Snow amounts will vary markedly across England and Wales with many places seeing very little accumulating snow. With cold air in place along with areas of rain and snow icy stretches are likely to form."

The matrix is the telling factor just one step away from amber from either side

Certainly lower overall now...

If this is correct and the metoffice puts an amber warning out for it we will be the laughing stock of the world. 😂

They forgot to put 'SOD ALL' over Stoke, in massive, bold letters 😊

I am sure those totals will go up if yellow warning upgraded to amber. Let's not forget is doesn't need much snow to gridlock our road system.

How would modelled totals rise if a warning upgraded to amber?

Yep HIRLAM is a little further north than the other models. I do think the models may have slightly over-extended how far south and may slightly re-correct back north. Not much, but a little...and a little is all some of you guys need!

FWIW HIRLAM is based off of the ECMWF framework, so in theory it should be very good (as is ARPEGE I believe). It did indeed do very well last winter (as did ICON) they are the two main ones I'd be watching in terms of details at this range.

I don't think the S.Midlands is out of the game at all, it may not be as heavy as it is further south, but it should still do ok I feel.

Any update on 06z ecm buddy?!!please say its pushed further north or at least the same!!

It does seem overall to be way weaker band than forecast Met and BBC say light snow from Thursday 7pm until Friday 10am. Also the band will hopefully hit the Midlands at nite so settling shouldn't be an issue. 12z should be the decider as the low comes into view.

With regards to that... It looks very similar to the GFS parallel prediction. Possibly an idea of the BBC's model of choice.

In all fairness you could probably argue the army are on standby for any major situation all year round so strictly speaking he could be right 😂

Actually, on closer inspection, not sure it quite reaches here.

According to Mark Duell of the Daily Mail we're all in the midst of a 'deep freeze' and it's a 'whiteout wednesday'. I wonder who's using the family brain cell this week in the Duell clan?

Yes, I'm sure that is the case. What really winds me up about Rao is his constant apocalyptic weather "forecasts". My next door neighbour, a lady in her 70's who still regards the Express as respectable newspaper as it was (possibly) in decades past and she reads this stuff and believes it - causes unnecessary fear and stress. I did tell him he was a bellend on twitter but he blocked me after that....

Yes mate and you have to think at this range and the Met with there super computers and access to models we cant see that it won't be dar of that. BBC just use ECM from what I understand.
