Ok, I have to reply to this because it's misleading the entire thread, iv studied radars and the weather all my life, the low pressure that formed along the south side of the main low is pushing east,

Nathan "not a weatherman" Rao of the Express says "Army on Standby as heaviest SNOWFALL hits in next 24 hours" What a bellend!

Bloody windy out there too isn't it?! Can hear it howling. Hoping we see more than a dusting in Oxford this weekend. Some models suggest we will see light-moderate snowfall for most of the evening and overnight. We shall see.

Some very, very light grains here...

Yep Fizz..

Same here.

Very light snow crystals earlier on left a slight covering on rooves(?) that are sheltered.

 Could hardly see anything falling.

Temp at +0.5C, with a dew point of -3.5C. That explains why the snow is settling. Wind is strong and gusty (to 20 mph).

Looking out now I can now see more distinct snow flakes falling, so as usual in these conditions it seems to be a bit of convection is required to set the showers off.  Expect them to get heavier later.

Whether we see a more prolonged period of snow or not is an open question.

It looks (and even now the snow sems to be heavier there) as if the SW may get the best of this convection, but almost anywhere is at risk.  (including particularly the Stoke area:D)

Anyway good luck to one and all, even if you want sunshine!!

Lets hope for a good covering for the rest of us on here:cold::D

MIA

Edit....

Temperture is now dropping further  (presumably the real cold is now arriving behind the front moving SW)...   Now at +0.2C,  with dp at -4.0C.

Morning Fizzychops:hi:

The snow is quite dry isn't it? Thankfully we have -10 850's again for this weekend so any snow that does fall later on today and overnight should start to settle more on pavements and roads!

Light snow here too, but moderate to fairly big flakes blowing around in the wind.

Seems to be a move to heavier snow with each flurry passing through.

Just been to the SW thread were the snow from the front  is moving through where BB1962 is getting very excited (I rate him) is getting very bullish about the next 36 hours for virtually the whole of the England. He expects a major event to develop.

Certainly there are signs of more continuous (though not heavy yet) snow moving across the country.

I like the sound of that. Fingers crossed anyway. I notice in the SE thread they're watching an ever growing blob heading their way.

Moderate snow here but not settling. Unlike the last cold spell, it has been very warm before the start of this cold spell. Hopefully it will have cooled down enough for the snowfall tonight, which looks good on the Met forecast.

Temperature still falling at -0.3C now, DP still at -4.0C.

Proper (small to medium) snow flakes now blowing around in the wind, although we are not at the moment in a heavier burst. One of those went though 10mins ago that looked very much like the ones of 2 weeks ago.!   :yahoo::cold:l

It is definitely getting interesting now...:diablo:

Whats with the big blob of snow building in east anglia?!!seems to be expanding rapidly!

Yep just seen that... it seems to be back building and spreading North.

There are also signs that the Wash Streamer is building up,  (and its heading straight for the Bham area!)..

If the 2 could join up we will really be in business!

As BB stated there are real signs of widespread snow building up!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Those in Bham/Black Country will be disappointed. Max 2cm overnight. Mock me all you want but the majority of the time I'm right

Only 5 level cm's or so fell during the last event, so the few flakes blowing in the wind today is no surprise.
