i really thought we were in with a squeek of a chance of a storm, clouds had real potential but alas, not looking likely now though

It looks like it could but nothing seems to come out. I know a chance for a storm was in the cards later tonight.

Day 2 Convective Outlook

VALID 06:00 UTC Tue 17 Jul 2018 - 05:59 UTC Wed 18 Jul 2018

ISSUED 19:43 UTC Mon 16 Jul 2018

ISSUED BY: Dan

Upper trough axis will swing eastwards across the British Isles on Tuesday, clearing to the North Sea by evening. The associated cool mid-levels atop diurnally-heated land will help generate a few hundred J/kg CAPE. A few scattered showers are likely, with deep enough convection in E / NE England and E Scotland for a few sporadic lightning strikes. Main inhibiting factor is a slightly warmer nose at 700mb, which may limit the depth of convective cloud perhaps.

Hoping some cells pop up further South, bit too far North for us. Would be good to have a home grown storm

I think this is very possible can you see that massive cumulonimbus to the east

Nothing expected here today but decent looking sky not long ago. Looking at the radar there was a brief light shower where that cloud was at the time.

Some pretty insane CAPE values showing towards the end of next week.

All way out in FI at the moment but the plume potential is there for the taking ?️?️?️

I've now gone 2 whole years without an overhead thunderstorm and almost a whole year without even a rumble of thunder!

I get how clouds work but....

For several days now we've had heavy looking rain clouds hanging over us, the type you'd normally see that would be chucking it down. So what's stopping them raining now?

I'm not sure however my guess would be, evaporation. The air under clouds does seem wetter than otherwise, you can feel moisture landing on your skin, but there is no evidence on the ground.

Is anyone else a bit perplexed by this, there is virtually no CAPE anywhere in that region on 12z GFS, here's the chart with the most:

am I missing something?

Very similar to here as in the picture I posted above. For the last couple of days around early afternoon it’s looked dark to the north of here but nothing at all showing on the radar.

@Mike Poole

I don't get it either.  A national rag have latched onto the mo thunderstorm warning too:

Leave the oxygen masks at home because I won't be holding my breath.  Probably just another kent clipper at best
