We didn't get thunder yesterday but seriously heavy rain up to half 1 then other than a few light showers was fine rest of the day. Today started damp but dry and cloudy now up to Wednesday it seems to be up and down but after that might be wrong but not looking too bad at all possibly for the rest of the month

Pleasant enough in Leith - 15C and a wee bit of blue sky about.  Drizzle was threatening around Penicuik on the way in, but fine now.

Brightening up here now, and that sun is hot. Weather station says 17.8c but it tends to tell fibs. Am excited at the idea of more high pressure good weather coming ? Hope it happens!

Some of the charts being put out by the models are exceptional. The GFS is pretty solid:

The 12z ECM is outrageous. High Pressure building and 850 temps hit 16C at the end of the run. That's 30C territory!!!

The first thing I thought when I saw the end of the ECM 12z was "1995", it really is quite something. For the uninitiated 1995 was very hot in some parts of Scotland :)

Very windy today so secured some very green hay ,only had to turn it twice but crops under pressure from such a drying wind. Hope Wednesdays forecast is correct.Very dusty Its begining to remind me of 75/76 when the hay was dry before it was cut . The domestic lawns are turning browner by the day as this drought gains its hold on the countryside.  a clear evening and 10c

Fantastic, that’s another cloud off the list, not sure what’s left at this point. Saw Nacreous clouds last year, supercell thunderstorms a couple of weeks ago. Ill look at my met office pocket cloud book tomorrow haha

I'll add to the collection with some shots from last night.  It was really beautiful around 12:30am but the cloud moved in after that.

A bit overcast today, dry, and a current temperature of 18C.

At least the winds are light.  They were strong enough early evening yesterday to bring down some big branches that blocked the A944 for a short time.

The 06z continues the high pressure dominated theme bringing some summer weather next week but there is an issue with wind direction for the west and north:

For some of us this is going to be something pretty special.

Not the only one to notice the lack of a breeze tonight, the midges are just fierce

Overcast, grey and some drizzle this evening after a nice sunny start to the day. 2nd batch of red squirrel kittens this year have emerged in the garden recently, lovely red coats compared to their more scraggly elders. 9c

Fine day again a bit breezy in the morning. A photo of the green hay20180619_102007.thumb.jpg.65bbb45f386b74f0596824d81523259a.jpg we got yesterday. Cut more today on the strength of next weeks forecast . Sprayer 20180619_101754.thumb.jpg.d0d2abd29d3e1f92e450ce329d81968f.jpg had  good conditions this afternoon for final fungicide spray on spring barley a whole two weeks earlier than average. Could be heading for an August harvest. The downside of that is lower yields and short straw but the upside is that prices of grain and straw will certainly rise. Currently slight rain and 12c

Yep, a pretty wet start to the day here but much needed. Put some new plants in the garden yesterday and the soil in the borders was pretty much dry as far down as I had to dig. The forecast of rain was one of the reasons I put them in yesterday i.e. no need to get the hose out again today.

Hmmmm. So summer arriving next week with some places having temps up to 30c. Ye can keep it! Can we just have around 21c, maybe squeezing up to 22c please? That's my limit. I will melt away to a greasy spot if it's any hotter than that! ☀️?️

Struggling to cope with the cloudy skies after 3 weeks of sunshine in Zambia ☺️ Fortunately it looks like I won’t have to wait long for the sunshine to return, a very encouraging outlook!

Stupendous charts for next week, the high is slightly differently orientated in the latest GFS run (compared to my post yesterday) so the NW is now roasted by Friday:

20JunGFS12z222.thumb.jpg.0c4e59f755668ffc872c3617710b1e6b.jpg

Squint carefully...those numbers are 29s in the north. The GFS sometimes underestimates temps by a degree or two. The all time Scottish temperature record is 32.9C. While we're not quite at that stage it may get within 2C.

Arriving in Dallas a few weeks back, it was over 37C. Now for a scot who has only ever been subjected to 30C a couple of times in his life walking out of that airport was the biggest shock to the system I’ve ever had, absolutely horrendous. I’ll take 25C any day, next week should hopefully provide that.
