ELR Sunday should be interesting Heywood - Bury - Rawtenstall round trips.

I’d love to do that this weekend but unfortunately haven’t got the time. Went up there the other week and just got there as the thaw was setting in. Going to see Tornado there on Easter weekend; would be nice if there was some snow to welcome me  then.

Flying Scotsman was at Rawtenstall station on Saturday when I called into the well known German supermarket near there.

certainly a lot of people about then but no doubt tomorrow’s snow will keep it quieter.

Yeah I know :-) it’s only on static display though not actually on the railway itself this time.

Good event - but far too many "rucsacks"

Yes it’s great watching this extreme  temperature drop

Wind swung round now - rattling the East facing gate and doors.

Band of precipitation pushing West from East coast now will be introducing the bitter air...

Manchester Airport just issued a Level 3 Snow/ice alert From 0500 17th March Until 18th March

Level 3 status is a warning for possible disruption and diversions.

Airport are asking for snow clearing teams to be on standby

So bizarre it can go from mild feeling almost tropical to feeling like Siberia overnight

Forecast for snow tomorrow and Sunday, hopefully it's right and hopefully it's the last of the cold and we can get into the warmer spring/summer temps

True, there was one in the station pulling carriages but Flying Scotsman seemed to be the centre of attraction.

back to weather though and why are the BBC regional weather forecasts so bland and uninspiring.

is it the graphics, is it the presenter or is it just the fact that they aren’t convinced that anything remotely interesting is going to happen.

personally i’m not bothered about any more snow this season but after missing the worst of it last time around I think that i’m going to get a bit of a dumping this weekend.

New Year's Eve night 1996, that's what reminds me of.

Remember it well mate, I was 16 at a house party which turned into more of a pi#sed snowball fight street party (pretty sure it was 96 anyway, I was pretty pi#sed like). :D

Winds have definitely switched & feeling noticeably colder in last hour.  Hope the snizzle from the weather front overnight moves moves away quickly to allow the convective showers to stream in from the bitter east.

We got about 6 inches of snow during the afternoon from that set up along with a fair bit of drifting.
