East Anglia and North London weather discussion (25/02/2018) onward

Recommended Posts

Those showers coming through The Wash are really maintaining their intensity. It bodes extremely well for later on as the winds (hopefully) swing roud to the East.

It's -5c outside and snowing. People have been slating this cold spell but that's not bad for any winter, let alone when nearly into March! Fingers crossed these stronger shower in the North Sea continue to build and multiply

Heavy snow again in the northern region of Peterborough. After this shower it will be a case of wait and see to find out whether that potent cluster in the wash comes to anything.

Edit: I wasn't expecting much so I'm properly chuffed :)

It is ridiculous how some people immediately throw in the towel if they don't see anything in a situation that could go any way when there are showers, which by their nature are random and could fall anywhere!

This is a very cold spell for the time of year, there are homeless people dying of cold on the streets and people are trying to say that "This isn't a true cold spell"... Come on!!!

Dan Holley and Weatherquest waving the flag for some decent snow in Norfolk tonight. ECM in support of wider snow for the Region, saying the NE'ly flow will have turned more SE'ly by midnight resulting in snowfall moving further inland. High Res models showing maybe 7cm - 8cm on the coast and 2cm - 5cm inland by 10.00 tomorrow.

ECM for 18.00 this evening still NE'ly, then swinging SE'ly by midnight (I'll be glued to the radar watching for the switch!!). Then gradually turning E'ly thru 06.00 to 12.00 tomorrow.

Just put the bins out in Central Peterborough, and there is about 1.5 inches on the ground and snowing heavily.   Looks like the potent shower in the Wash that was heading this way has weakened slightly - still tonights fall is about the most we've had here all winter.

The showers are really beefing up in the North Sea and the Thames Estuary area, as well as The Wash doing it's job nicely... I really do feel that the MetOffice will upgrade parts of our region very soon if they haven't done already.

Two things I've noticed in the last few minutes.

1. There's a lot more activity in the southern North Sea that any time today

2. There's more of an ENE movement

Both things should be good for this region I would say. Game on!

Its amazing to watch the sky turn from bright orange to almost, dark navy when the skies clear. It now looks seriously cold with the anow cover.

Noticed that the met office now predict heavy snow tomorrow morning and afternoon for Peterborough. Updated just a minute ago.

Here is the little fella

arpegeuk-2-12-0.png?27-16

So the winds might veer north easterly or even northerly towards the west of the region for a time, then we will see that feature move westwards, this looks to organise areas of showers and push them west, esepcially through the north of the region. This shallow low approaching is probably the reason why we are seeing some pretty potent showers appearing along the coast now.

So judging by this, the showers should become heavier and more organised and again the risk of thunder couldn't be ruled out.

As for overnight lows, probably -4C to -6C widely but lower in any clearer spots (Herts probably favoured for the lowest minima).

I thought it couldn't be too long before they realised the potential for heavy snow tonight. I would expect warning to be upgraded again soon.
