Went to the Pennines in the end. Should have gone to Teesdale, but there wasn't time, so settled for Weardale. Couple of shots...

Here you go... I ventured fully out. 27991638_1593131500722016_1995411088115499008_n.mp4

Have to say the SE thread better than any soap opera. They're attacking each other cos some have snizzle and some dont, the place is in melt down.  Thank God for regionals and happy to see that w

The yellow warning for snow and Ice

Between 12:00 Tue 29th and 11:00 Wed 30th

Rain turning to snow, especially on hills, then turning icy.

What to expect

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some ice on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

Further details

A band of rain will arrive across Wales, northern and western England through the middle of Tuesday, then move eastwards through Tuesday afternoon and evening. The rain will turn quickly to snow on hills, then also to low levels in places. 3 to 5 cm snow is likely above 200 metres, with up to 10 cm in a few places. A patchy covering of 1 to 2 cm is possible at low levels, although some places will see no snow at all. As skies clear overnight, ice is likely to form on some surfaces. In addition, wintry showers will follow into western areas on Wednesday morning, giving further slight accumulations of snow in a few places.

Absolutely bewildered with the hype of this up and coming cold spell/snap. Posters are even booming charts that are just the normal winter weather and even worse they are polar maritime charts which gives the wrong type snow (sarcasm) ? . I blame social media!

The forecast for Feb is cold with winds that favour our region although I must say the charts are favouring south westerlies at the moment, that can change and just maybe it will then be our turn. These late cold spells (viz mid Feb to mid March can be very advantageous for those who like the white stuff).

Looks like the snowdome up around the NE again ?

I would rather let them have it. Its polar maritime so it will be wetter than people expect. Snow precipitation charts always tend over do snow levels to lower elevations in this kind of setup, so unless you're in the hills in Wales or the Peak District it has the potential to become a slushy mess. So I'll pass this one ?

Quick update, Tomorrow looks very uneventful for most of the NE... NY Moors and parts of County durham inland towards pennine areas will see some snow.

Thursdays event looks delayed and we wont see anything till overnight into friday with wintry showers following from the NE-EAST

Next week, less cold more of a SW-W'ly influence but downwelling will impact models by the weekend so expect some better runs for N blocking showing

Beyond this week, the 25 day app which uses a blend EC monthly shows slight uptick between 7th and 12th before more cold lows with NW NNW and NE winds taking temps back down.

Nice, high ground looks like getting at least a few cms today. For us at lower elevations we need the front to move as slow as possible so the cold air can undercut. Good luck all

DRIZZLE here at the moment

No hope for me then!  I'm not expecting much so whatever (if anything) I do get will be a nice bonus.

Improving! It doesn't half feel raw out there I hope some evaporating cooling comes into play.  Anyway I'm sure we'll see soon how this is about to pan out.
