I would not be to concerned about the snow at next weekend as everything is still up in the air( pun not intended) as it could well herald the breakdown but still to far in the weather future for anything to bother with just yet. Enjoy your snow holidays,I wonder if the bookies are taking bets on snow depths.

Might nip to Tesco tonight to get some milk. Got loads of flour in to make several loaves! But given I like 500 yrs from a  24 hr Tesco, I'm in prime position to grab stuff if there are shortages.

Getting a bit concerned about my Mrs and 11 yr old swimming mad daughter travelling up to Edinburgh from Newcastle 6pm by train next Friday, due back Sunday. They are going up to the UK Championships to spectate as part of her Christmas pressies. Train companies find any excuse don't they. Tickets for train, hotel and event all booked and paid for.

Bet it's the wrong type of snow. I suppose they could be right on that, if it is dry and powdery in a strong wind, they may not be able to keep the tracks clear?

Ah well slight downgrade in the longevity, but still time for change. Should be an interesting week for us in the North East where the cold remains the longest. Let's hope we see some upgrades as it's not unheard of when we have been blessed with impossible upgrades for so long.

Any of you not following the Forecast Models thread could do worse than a quick visit to page 140 and read the long amazing and scary post from Bring Back 1962 - 1963. GULP??

Depends whether we get lucky with the showers. It looks good as it stands. We could see an upgrade to the yellow warning for snow already issued if the convection really gets going.

NMM showing a cold week ahead it ends with a hint of some less cold air coming into play for the far south during Thursday so it may be a case for them of a snow to rain event later Thursday or into Friday. Further north for us the cold air would hang on until Saturday at least

Just read it, makes sense.

Very difficult for cold to be shifted so easy, plus this is some way off and i personally will be looking no further than 3 to 5 days out. To much to see in the near term regarding snow and want to enjoy every minute.

Yes there are some support for less cold to arrive next weekend, until this has more agreement and less spread in essembles post 2nd March, lets not take to much note for now.

I normally have to head to the hills for my winter hiking but next week the dunes around alnmouth will probably be  just as challenging.

When are we expecting things to kickoff?

Sunday night/Monday morning?

Depends what you mean? If it's the start of the snow showers and very cold air arriving then sunday night.

If it's disruptive snow, then prob tuesday.

My 6-a-side game outside on Monday night looks like it could be a tad nippy!

I suspect a lot of people will think he is "over-egging the pudding" and being ott with his almost dystopian vision of life for some next week, but many up here in particular next week may have their patience tested somewhat, if not find themselves in dangerous situations?

I think Nick meant a foot of level snow not drifts. I imagine we'll be seeing some huge drifts over the Cheviots by the end of next week.
