getting the impression from model forum that Friday could go one of four ways

1, Heavy snow then low pulls south keeps us in cold

2. Heavy snow then a warm up

3. Snow misses us to the south but keeps us in cold

4.  It comes North but brings freezing rain after some snow

takes your preference

A tiny bright echo on the radar smack dab over Bewdley has delivered! An icing sugar dusting on the ground now, the first actual settling snow today. Temp down to -1.2 °C, so unsurprisingly it's not melting.

What I noticed from that shower. It intensified from nothing  good sign maybe ?

And now if all the weather could just hold off doing anything difficult until about 1:30am, in the area between Telford and Manchester, it would be appreciated... :)

My chap has just set off for an evening out, with the car suspension groaning under the weight of all the food I've forced him to take with him, cans of coke, and blankets, jumpers, woolly socks, hats, gloves, mittens for over the gloves, waterproof rip-stop nylon sheet, five kilos of dishwasher-salt granules, a shovel, nylon broom, spade, torches, reflective hi-viz armbands with LED lights...

I am assuming all of it will come back untouched (okay, apart from maybe the coke and the sausage-rolls and the packet of Twixes!) but, well, if he needs any of it, he'll be in a situation where he'll be glad of all of it!

It can deluge with snow, but after 1:30am in the Manchester-to-Telford line please!

Model Output thread is frustrating. All comments on the models just focus on the south.

They also keep pulling out the ICON and the GEM. Two of the worst performing models for our part of the globe.

The trouble with situations like this is that the model output and forecast graphics look rubbish for snow yet the warnings and written forecasts tell a different story. If's because the models and graphics are useless with showers.

GFS gives me just -2.4 inches of snow this week despite showers on Tuesday and Wednesday and a long spell of heavy snow Friday.

One definitely seems the most appealing!

Well didn't expect to see any snow today but was pleasantly surprised. :)

General consensus that the midlands don't do well from easterly's , that right ? :gathering:

Option #1 gets my vote every time :good:

But if I had to choose between either a big snow event and a warm up OR less snow but remaining very cold, I'd probably plump for the second option overall. Snow events which eventually lead to milder conditions never quite do it for me, even if the initial snow is pretty significant.

It will be number 4, but the freezing rain will only be in the south for a time and will not affect the Midlands. It's what the warnings and forecasts suggest and it's what the models have shown for days. People in the model thread are just hoping it goes a different way because they live in the south.

Light snow on and off all day here with a couple of heavier bursts.  Not amounted to much but hope this is just the beginning of a memorable spell of weather :cold:

Dont see where the heavier showers are going to come from for this evening. If anything its getting lighter and patchier in the NorthEast.

The low on the euro 4 misses us. But there are a rash of showers

not dissapointed as today never really looked like anything but passing showers ,

but dissapointed with tomorow as it has downgraded substantially

but with that thought it could easily upgrade out of no where too

, great to see these showers leave a covering straight away , unlike the comedy wet snow we are used too
