Have to say today has been brilliant, extreme blizzards giving instant coverings, drove home from work at 5pm with my car reading -6 In a whiteout.

The radar is really interesting with a swing in shower distribution moving southwest recently rather than east like most of today but the showers are all packing into the east, the wash has ramped up and the far East is also ramping up I can't help but think tonight's gonna be very interesting.

're tomoz, if you read glaciers post a few pages back it's very interesting and explains what models nailed it recently. It's looking good for tomoz but I think it's gonna be a now casting event as today as considering the BBC said today would be dry it's been very snowy so with the deep instability we have and extreme laps rates it doesn't take much to create the showers which is why I'm so interested in this evening's radar.

Some extremely beefy snow showers up where i work in Penkridge, South Staffs. They closed the Day Centre i work at early. Old people and snow don't mix to well. Back home now, few showers throughout the day apparently.

At the old mill on Teddesley Road?

Yeah EURO4 no good. Very different to Arpege and Hirlam. Unfortunately out of all the high res models, I would put NMM and Euro4 ahead of arpege and hirlam, and the NMm and Euro4 are the ones showing very little progress into the midlands.

Still you never know! fingers crossed that the Arpege/Hirlam have it right this time.

Just had an email from Malvern Hills council - 'Heavy Snow Expected'... bins may not be collected Friday!

Halesowen: Min -6.5C (05.39) Max -0.7C (13.06) Currently at -5.3C Rate -0.5C/hr

Dudley: Min -6.7C (03.36) Max -1.3C (14.20) Currently at -5.3C Rate -0.9C/hr

Light snow showers all day in Dudley which haven't really settled, but drove to Halesowen to find a sharp shower with blowing snow that has left a covering across all surfaces of a few mm, perhaps a cm in places.

Whiteover leaving a nice covering as the sun sets.

I'm now classing that mini dump earlier as pretty epic around 4.30. Only second time at this level I've seen blowing and drifting snow, it really was intense for a period. Then the most perfect sunset on what has been a stunningly cold day.

Missed all the best showers and now Thursday and Friday apparently looking crap. Shambles of a cold spell in my location.

Snowy spell or cold spell?

I'd say today has been a great day in terms of a cold spell, with tomorrow being equally cold.

The Met Office text summary forecast for the West Midlands sounds intetesting tomorrow with them mentioning some persistent snow moving up from the South through the morning.

But the bad news (unless you hate the snow)... is it’s a different story for the East Midlands. No mention of any snow on their text summary for that area, apart from some showers in the morning. Maybe, though, the Met Office aren’t totally confident about what their Euro4 model is showing considering what they mention for the West Midlands. Be nice to think both the West and East Midlands could be part of the snowy alliance tomorrow. Otherwise, it really will probably be the case of relying on some savage snow showers again to provide some wintry goods!

Forecast a lot of heavy snow tomorrow morning on the Met Office app. Guessing that will be showers instead of the front as that would surely be too early.

Annoying, too be honest it only takes one of them to hit and you'll do well.

I wonder if there is a tendency for showers to be pushed around cities by the tall buildings and slightly warmer air.. certainly seems like it when you witness the incredible precipitation gymnastics as they get towards your area :p
