Just rain and a bit of sleet here.

The clouds looked promising enough but never mind. The main course is on its way later.

What have you ordered for main course?

That's desert

Yes you got me on that.

Baked Alaska = Cold in the Peak District whilst warmer all around.

Anyway. As usually happens in the set up for tonight and tomorrow,

I wake up to fnd that the continuous stream of showers previously falling as rain or sleet, have turned to snow overnight and dumped 3" or more on my location (Will in Glossop will double that).

Everything grinds to a halt, the schools announce they are closed and the sledges come out as everyone heads to the slopes of Bankswood Park.

Heavy hail and rain showers. The occasional flake of snow thrown in for good measure.

Funny you should say that. Two secondary schools (both require improvement), a few Primary and infant ones. Most are average.

My 11 year old has S.E.N. and has to go 13 miles over to Failsworth/Holinwood in Oldham to be taught otherwise it was Chesterfield, 33.5 miles away to keep him under Derbyshire Education Authority.

The weather doesnt affect the journey as much now but we used to lose 5-7 days over winter when Chunal hill (A624) was impassible to Whaleytbridge.

Quite a journey! But i guess the kids must be happy to have the odd day off school because of snow. I know I loved those days as a kid.

Heavy rain/sleet here. There seems to be some proper snowflakes drifting down with it, if the temp goes low enough we might yet get some decent falling snow from this spell. Gonna to need to be heavy to settle though; ground is absolutely saturated from three days of hail, rain and sleet. That said I did see snow settle when the ground was this wet back in the North East on several occassions, so not impossible.
