As it stands at present, some western upslopes of the Pennines will be looking at perhaps a foot of snow from any shower trains...

We got this from a similar set up in January about 3 years ago, can’t remember the date but it was very localised and areas lower down and only a couple of miles away had no more than a couple of inches.

Still not seen one forecast for here that shows anything other than rain or sleet from Monday onwards. Will believe it's snowing when I see it and not untill.  Nothing to get excited about for those lower down and nearer the coast at the moment. Further inland and higher up as always will be the place to be ....

The good thing about this is that contrary to normal, things seem to be upgrading rather than downgrading the closer we get....all it takes really is for upper temps to be a degree or so colder and we will all get snow.

For anyone worried about marginal uppers, it’s worth remembering that the below setup for 29 Jan 2015 gave a heavy snowfall to low lying South Manchester - note the rather tepid 850’s!

Couldn’t resist posting this from ECM snow depths. Yes Zi know they are not very good but still good to look at.

Monday 15 January—Sunday 21 January
Staying unsettled with some drier interludes

The unsettled weather is set to continue into next week, with fronts coming in off the Atlantic from the west or south west. This will bring wet and windy weather, with the risk of gales and some heavy downpours. We will also have the chance of snow over the mountains in Scotland. It is not all doom and gloom though, as we should have some drier and brighter interludes between the fronts. Temperatures will be around average, with some frosty nights.

I think the monthly outlook for next week needs a few tweaks

Should we ‘hunker down’.

Beer, pizza and snow shovels at the ready.
