A good damp start this morning, starting off the rainfall for 2018, meanwhile the MAD thread is in meltdown with analysis of every possible flinch every output makes.

Happy New Year all. An unexpectedly wet start to the day. Thought it was going to be brighter today.

If we're looking for positives towards colder conditions today is a good start. Last night's Countryfile gave me the impression that the balmy weekend would continue however here we are at 13.00 and it's not reached 7c yet and a frost looks likely tonight.

4.2mm of rain this year!

Currently sunny and..

Temp: 8.3°C - Hum: 89% - Dew: 6.5°C - Bar: 997.90hPa - Wind: WNW @ 5mph.

Forecasts showing that Tuesday in to Wednesday could see the highest winds for at least a year. Hoping to break another record if that's the case. :)

Happy New Year fellow Southerners,

My best chance of seeing something cold and snowy showing up in the models.

Maybe 3rd time lucky!!

Fair enough. If it's not this Winter, then with low solar min  we have a better chance of colder Winters for the next few.

Patience is the name of the game when you live where we do

The moon looks amazing tonight! Rather chilly on a bike ride with the daughter this afternoon, blew the cobwebs away.. made me realise I’m a fat heifer and taken advantage of this last month with the food and drink!!

Yeah I agree patience is a virtue down here, but when you see "transient" events that barely make it south of Brum, AND the option for a potential "warm" easterly, you have to think there's something a little off kilter with the UK weather. No wait, I remember Donald saying "Global warming, bah humbug, no such thing..." so that rules that out then. I'm upbeat as we have a long way to go yet, but when folks talk about SSW for the end of Jan you do have to think "Is it over....?"

I resign myself every winter to not seeing snow perhaps if I make a new years resolution to that it will surely be broken.

Happy new year to all.

Yup the ECM has done what most would have thought unachievable today, got a reaction out of me, bound to be on the money right? :pardon:
