Last time I was much more confident as the cold air was already in place and if was an all snow event. This time we are relying on an undercut of cold air and I’m not sure we’ll see any meaningful settling snow, hope I’m wrong of course ??

Agree, tomorrow’s potential will be nothing like the last snow event.

Before we had (for more location anyway) no preceded rain, embedded cold air, a harsh pre frost and higher precip totals forecast.

Wrap around systems make me nervous, they can go right of course, but boy oh boy can they go wrong.

I remember back in 2008 or 2009 a similar system was predicted to run across the SE and Midlands giving 5cm once a transition to snow. I think most saw a 30 minute wet snow fall with no accumulations.

BBC Look East on TV just now is only going with rain & sleet tomorrow across whole of region including East Midlands

BBC national weather just now with Ben Ridge “any snow for the high ground’’

Still 4C over here, so snow is all but off the table anyway..?:unknw:

It should be going from Rain to snow around 3am for the Home Counties etc. Hopefully it sticks but ECM 12z snow charts only show about 1cm at best, so a downgrade on the 00z unfortunately.

Edit : a bit more actually ?

ECM definitely an upgrade. Still NW of the region who sees a decent covering though. Dunstable downs and west Chilterns the place to head to if you want to build a snow man and go sledging ..

Checking forecasts not expecting anything other than  maybe  short period of wet snow maybe enough to give a sprinkling over the top of the downs. My long wait for a covering of snow continues. Hoping January will produce the goods.

Shows 200mm for my area, if only. Also I think that chart shows snow depth if it all settles, the actual accumulation charts are not so impressive

Is that definitely from 12z ?

I am 100% confident the next  12 hours is going to to be a total mess. NW Essex here and nowhere near the same ingredients of a few weeks ago. This could have been a  real event but the uppers and dewpoint are really going to have the get under that mistletoe...

Heavy rain here, assuming that the 'cold air hasn't  got here yet'   my forecast although i am under a warning is 'maybe wintry on hills'  I am not on a hill.  Not really bothered strangely enough, was only thinking the other day that I am actually looking forward to Summers 2 thunderstorms.

My last snow fall was enough, got me a snow day, that'll do me.:santa-emoji:

Sorry about the quality but it shows what winter used to be like in my area.

I think this Arpege is probably close to the mark BUT due to how marginal things are, who knows whether less or more could happen on the pink stuff.

Edit: The NW radar has trashed any northern track of the LP. It is tracking right up to my area, not North as many people have suggested.

Another day of far too much food and drink, fun :drunk-emoji::santa-emoji: Definitely need a long walk/run tomorrow. Not expecting any snow here but might be surprised, like last time. Raining here again after a nice morning.

It better not snow in London or I'll be an uh-happy bunny, the north deserves the snow this time.
