Cancelled my plans for tomorrow thinking it was going to be awful, then the amber warning sinks south, and the Metoffice’s app video forecast shows the snow barely making inroads north of Cheshire! You couldn’t make it up!

hope gradually fading for me-its becoming wet here now- only hope is showers later after 2pm but somethings got to happen rapidly in the irish sea- and it doesn't look like doing.

There is decent shower activity from the Liverpool area all the way to my southwest. This line should slowly move northwards as the flow becomes more and more westerly but to be honest I am not expecting anything more than wintriness here from now on. The temperature has risen and there is a damp feeling outside if you get what I mean.

Shower activity just to our SW, haven't had a flurry yet but fingers crossed will see some in the next few hours, our best chance.

Tomorrow - looks like a midlands event, but we shall see, quite frustrating. West/NW Midlands could be about to see two significant snow events in the space of two days - good for them, these areas haven't faired especially well for snow in recent years.

Still a chance some snow may make it further north, but now expecting just a cloudy raw winters day here, hopefully with a light snow cover..

The UK climate is so variable, where else can you see such localised differences, some places are white yet a few miles away they are green, wind direction is crucial. Had it been just a smidgeon more westerly then we would have seen copious showers this morning.

That looks like an upgrade from the 06Z vs last nights run. Still time for a push north.

Don't think Cumbria marra would agree about that

I think that's a bit early for the drop. In the evening/night when the skies clear and the westerly flow gets cut off.

Just watched the BBC forecast and their version of the Met amber warning area for Sunday is definately further north than the one on the Met O site extending almost to the Ribble.

the snow graphics weren't that inspiring but he did say could be further north or south but TBH it showed the entire thing disintegrating during the afternoon so unless there is some very heavy snow in a short space of time, totals even in the sweet spots may not be that great.

I agree with you BT, we've all been around here long enough to know how volatile these systems can be.

about 2 and a half hours and we will definitely know a lot more.

Looks like them showers in the Irish sea to the west of Formby have Greater Manchester's name on them.

Again, if the BBC warning graphic has Greater Manchester involved in the amber warning then its definitely out of date, the met Office updated one today has the amber further south and the yellow about 40 miles or 60 miles further North but the text says northern most areas in the yellow might get little or no snow.

Interesting to see how the system currently develops out in the Atlantic. It is approaching Ireland now and the cold clearer air further north (north of Ireland) is like a block causing it to start sliding southeastwards, as opposed to the usual east/northeast progress of Atlantic systems.

Very weird localised dynamics in terms of snow cover in South Manchester this morning. Currently on the train from Mauldeth Road (where there was no snow whatsoever) but as soon as you reached Longsight/Levenshulme there was a bit more of a covering. Shows the very localised nature of showers I guess.

Yet another thing to add to the list of reasons why we are always let down when it comes to snow.
