What is it with the MOD thread? People desperately saying still room for more southward movement.  No charts to back up their claim, no reasoning why they think it will move more southward.

The MetO  have issued a amber warning area due to the fact they are sure that this is the area that is going to be hit.

Yet Fred from Essex thinks they are wrong lol

They make me sick!

The problem is that Fred from Essex and his mates usually get their way when it comes to pinching our snow.

There does seem to be an element of desperation creeping in in some posts-

But its only because they want to see some snow- i got no problem with peeps looking for positives even when their are not many at hand- iv'e done it myself- gone with the best model for my region and ignore 99% of the others lol.

Some places might get a dusting tomorrow but i'm not seeing any prolonged heavy stuff.

FWIW the rain shadow is going to play a part sunday for greater manchester- no amount of wishing will make that go away.

The meto app forecast makes sense- the preip is light when the winds are SE but as sooon as the winds become E the precip gets heavy

For all those in Greater manchester we want the wind direction to be EAST or NORTH EAST

Sick of hearing about this f’ing snow shadow! ???

Hahaha- yes me too joe-

But i don't think it will be as devastating as the last similar event when we basically got nothing-

Winds are expected to be easterly which is great news- as long as it stays like that :)

Yes- they take all the intensity out of the system approaching-

SE winds are desperately bad news (hope they dont happen)!!

I fully expect Sunday to be snow for all of us as I believe the slider will be modeld further south by then with an  off-shore flow bringing lower DPs so there will be no marginality.

Said this on Tuesday. I know it hasn’t happened yet, but nice call by me there hopefully.

A  beautiful winters day here blue skies arctic airstream, fells etched white , lovely, biting wind. We had a slight dusting first thing, but all the shower activity has been to our SW.

My eyes are turning to tomorrow, wind is going to change to a westerly, and I suspect we will pick up quite a few showers as the day wears on, just when everywhere else starts to see them diminish. BBC forecast is showing some snow tomorrow evening..

Sunday - very messy, a wait and see picture, would be good to have a couple of inches - I remain optimistic, from an imby perspective could do with the front edging about 100 miles north but can't be greedy and this wouldn't suit southern parts of the region as it would very marginal, alas the region is just about on the right side of marginal.

Very lucky.

Relatives in Staveley sent me a few images today very nice - they have stocked up on more wood for the burners- but maybe here on the Fylde might have an event for a change.

There’s some very complex physics involved. It’s the Peak hills yes, but it only seems to happen when it’s frontal precipitation (easterly convective showers from the North Sea are fine if the flow is strong enough), coming in from the west and then interacting with a SE’ly wind.

Mr Data might have more detail of these events in the past.

As I said the other day, it’s  one reason why 1963 was so snowless in Manchester.
