Mace Head in Galway 53 knots gusting to 76 knots (westerly). Pressure at Belmullet 979 mbs, slackening wind there as eye of storm very close to their west now. Squall line racing east through Ireland.

This storm has pretty much decided which door, get ready if you're in the main path (Lancs to Lincs ... I do think it could produce fairly severe gusts in the south as well but intense, damaging wind gusts very likely in that zone including much of Wales. Onset of strongest winds about 0900h Lancs to 1200h Lincs.

The wind briefly picked up here not long ago but seems to have dropped again at the moment.

After a brief downgrade on the 18z, the 0z increases gusts a tad across inland areas

Perhaps reaching 70 mph inland across NW England

ukgust.png

65-68 mph gusts showing quite widely across the N Midlands if I'm reading the legend correctly.

Arome showing 65-70 mph into Cheshire

Winds are gusting over 120 km/hr well inland across north-central Ireland, this will be a precursor to very strong and gusty winds making it all the way through from the Irish Sea to the North Sea. This will be a memorable windstorm especially given how quickly it developed out of a very weak system 24 hours ago. The centre is in eastern NI at this point, heading for the southwest tip of Scotland and then into Cumbria. I am very concerned for wind damage potential in Lancs given the shaping of the isobars.

The really strong winds are in the southwest quadrant of this storm, the rather strong southwest flow ahead of the squall line is but a taste of much stronger winds that follow. Expect peak winds in Lancs around 0800h to mid-day from WNW. Stay in port.

Would you include Merseyside in that?

What a difference the RADAR looks compared to 2 hours ago when I got my head down for a few Z's, you can physically see the effect the strong-windfield in the SW quadrant is having with showers in that region south of Dublin to Galway. Just shearing the cells and splaying the precip ahead of themselves.

Nothing of note here latest gfs shows much lower wind speeds 60 to 70 mph rather than 70+. local forecast just shows a normal windy day. Conflict between weather warnings which are old and local forecast which is newer.

We shall see what actually turns up.

Wow it's just gone wild here. Heavy rain and gale force gusts. This isn't the cold front yet is it?

It is a thing of beauty.

Also not a perfect shape due to the extreme winds happening in the SW portion.
