So, Farnborough and Benson both recorded -8 last night. Will it go lower tonight? Would be nice for somewhere to sneak a -10 in before milder conditions return next weekend.

I live about 4 miles from farnborough and it always seems to be 1.5c colder there ??

I think it's all to do with the soil. I believe areas with sandy soil always record lower temperatures. Farnborough and Benson always seem to be the cold spots in our area.

Well I was visiting Syngenta at Jealott's Hill in Bracknell (the nice part of Bracknell) on Friday evening. One of the Chemical Research Biologist's runs his own weather station up there and has had it going since 2009 (perfect timing for the period of cooler winters) and logged a low of -15c in December 2010. Will be interesting to see what's been recorded this weekend when I go back up there Monday. Being in the Berkshire/Hampshire/London area has been a boon this week for great winter cold.

This the scene outside my house right now .. Wimbledon common ponds where completely frozen over and was great to see dogs running across etc  . I left my phone at home by accident which was a annoying otherwise I would have uploaded some pics . The ice in the shade has not thawed one bit.

Sunny all day here, though I can tell that we have lost the dry continental feed as it has become murkier through the afternoon so fog looks to be a likely tonight. Tomorrow could be very cold given many places will see fog for most of the day with clear skies overhead.

Fog warnings out, yellow warnings for tonight and morning.

I hope its not as bad the fog I drove through in Ongar on 30th December, seriously dense fog on the roads that deserved an amber warning upgrade....maybe

Temp maxed at 5.7 c today now down to 2.6 c

Danson will be frozen 100%

infact its been so cold as you come off at bluewater - the quarry thats on the right which is a good 2/3 times bigger than danson is solid as well !

1.9 here & dropping fast, expecting sub zero by 530 !!

Dropping fast here too under clear skies. Quick question though. Will the formation of fog inhibit temperature drop?

Just dipped below freezing already here in Southend. -0.3c @ 16:30

Good amount of fog. Visibility down to <100m

Hoar frost or rime perhaps? Freezing fog for sure.

We have done well too have such a long dry High pressure set up, we seem to be having sun from dawn to dusk. Shame its not June. Jolly chilly again here in Seaford but very calm. When will the Atlantic storms come back? Good Health to you all.

I thought as much. I guess temperatures can be lower with freezing fog as the droplets are super cooled

Same here in Tilehurst, everything frozen over for days. Looks like its been snowing in the shade with frost that has persisted for days on end. Yet, watching bbc weather this morning with predictions of 6/7 degrees as per the last 3/4 days suggests something different.

Slighlty confused as over the last week google has reported current temps of 6/7 in Reading but yet my weather station has been saying 1-3 maxes, inluding today which maxed at 2.4c. Yet, radio said it was 6c.

Anyone else getting this anomaly?

Have just had a lovely sunny day in London, actually felt very pleasant this afternoon and had to ditch the coat for a while as was getting too hot.

There was a noticeable haze in the sky today though, and not just because of London's awful air quality!

Was going to go up there today!

Ended up taking the 10 minute walk over to Longside lake and couldn't belive it was about 2-3" thick loads of stuff been thrown to try and break it with little success

There must be a cold pool to the east of our region. Here in east Berkshire temperatures appear to be falling slower than in Kent.
