Classic spring day, a frost in some places to start but potentially into the low twenties by the middle of the afternoon. I love large diurnal ranges.

Well the 9th April record is 23.9C (Southend, 1969), so that's gone.

This must be one of the warmest first half of spring in the record:)

Provisionally, I make the CET mean for 1/3 to 8/4 to be 8.80C. The warmest first half of Spring on record (1/3 to 15/4) was in 1957 at 8.85C. Currently we're in second. Other warm years include 1945 (8.71C) and 1779 (8.49C) (the late 1940s and the 1770s featured a lot of Spring warmth), as well as 1938 (8.67C), 1961 (8.55C), and the more recent years of 1997 (8.66C) and 2014 (8.43C).

To put this April into context with April 2016 it took until the 21st last year to record a month high of 20.3°C this year we've hit a provisional 25.0c on the 9th

The way it's looking, the second half of spring will be colder than the first. Especially if the forecast cold nights come off as forecast.

Thankfully the end to this weather will come through over night, much cooler better conditions on the cards and lower flipping pollen levels!! Can tolerate this weather just in the summer months but hate it this early.

Ridiculous warmth for so early in the month today. We reached 23.1C in the end, which is 12.0C above the 1981-2010 average for the 9th and only 0.9C short of the warmest April maxima we've ever recorded in 37 years.

Before 2007 we'd only reached 20C twice before April 16th, but since then we've managed it 6 times and two of those days were 22.6C and 23.1C.
