Would seem that way and yes hes been a great help during his time on here. The models this morning esp the gfs 6z to my eye have later in the run the makings of a proper scan based easterly and more blocking moving into iceland.May be a slow process but imo thats where its heading

getting there!!!:D

The 6z is one of the best runs for snow I have ever seen, a polar low running down the east coast is the stuff dreams are made of. Hasn't happened in my lifetime but has in the past.

To good to be true probably, can't post charts on phone

That isn't a true polar low .. just an ordinary low dragging down polar air. Will do  the business just as well and probably longer lasting than the genuine article.

Oh my word what a fantastic run from the 6Z... Cobra meeting required after that run. surely if that verified the country would be brought to a complete stand still..airports closed etc... a state of emergency and not in the USA for once... if the next 24hr of models follows in the same way we could well be onto something special

Whatever happens let us enjoy this run for the spectacle it provides. FI or not these are charts worth archiving!

Exactly! This is similar to That ECM from 2012!

Just for Fun but in FI even areas on the South cost are under 20cm of snow!  Would be a long cold snowy spell for the UK if the 06z GFS came off !

I know. I almost totally agree. Even to see such a run is worth it :)

So reminiscent of 1978/9 where we had these north and north-east lows (point taken about whether it's a true polar low) which brought some massive snowfall. I can remember HUGE drifts: some of them were ten feet high over the hedgerows.

Can it still happen today? Is this just a dream?

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
