Modern w i n t e r is taking effect, I see - cooler few days, then mild and wet after the weekend.  If lowland England ever gets proper cold and lying snow for more than a couple of hours I'll drop the hypothesis, but I doubt that's going to happen this winter.  Thank goodness I was able to reform myself as a mild fan.:good:

Yes, could look vile in low lying areas this week, rain showers around the coasts, then even worse Saturday with wet weather streaming in from the Cheshire Gap, wouldn't be surprised if were in westerlies next week, typical of TMW

the only real cold on ECM is in deep FI at 240,

Too dangerous with all the flying toys in there!

Not just a one-off, either.  I'm going to possibly offend some cold fans, but, IMO, 90% of cold-ramping frequent Mod thread posters know the square root of FA but obscure their ignorance with what even an idiot like me knows is pseudo-scientific nonsense or inventing terms that are meaningless.  Most worthwhile comments are posted by neutrals or those who keep their cold preference separate from their analysis.

Should be quite pleasant.

Yes Chris. would rather GEM came off, than have a horrid weak northerly that brings rain showers through the Cheshire Gap

Hate it - it's even worse than chilly anticylonic gloom.  If it's going to be cloudy it can at least be mild as compensation!

Vile tomorrow, these thicknesses do not support snow, at least for my location, just hope it's a wishbone effect, not sure about yours off the north sea, but I would guess just rain/sleet

At least it's not winter just yet :-P

The only thing I have faith in, is that British weather will 'always' find a way to avoid cold and snow at all costs.

We should hold competitions on here, to see who can come up with the most imaginative downgrades possible. :D

That's me off to watch University Challenge...and, when I return I'll have a head the size of a planet, and, with any luck, it'll look nothing at all like Uranus...;)

1 cm of slush that melts within a couple of hours?  Thanks but no thanks!:nonono:  What I'd like is that mild southerly that appeared in one of the models earlier today.

best we can hope for in the modern erah, all I get mostly now, is 1cm of slush, gone by 10am, even if air still 'cold' good old days, snow only thawed when Atlantic won, nowadays thaws can happen in the cold setup

changed massively since the 80's and 90's
