VILE day! Utter muck! Not even a vague hope of seeing anything wintry overnight to make it worthwhile. Awful, awful, awful stuff! Roll on work finishing at 6pm and my first drink being poured!

Did the pre-storm checks last night - batteries fully charged, where are the candles matron, have we got enough meths to cook the goose you dirty old tramp, etc. There's a bit of a draught this morning but nothing special - yet.

Already looking ahead to some coldness in the new year which almost certainly won't happen.

Currently watching it pi5h down with rain on the snow cover, always a sad sight. Winds have been picking up, the wee birdies favourite feeder has been annihilated, Barbara you drunken witch, how could you..

Like HC, plenty coal, kindling, candles and torches assembled, no meth involved, though I think the birds have gone to source some

Blowing a mean 40mph up here just now, gusting to 50. Before Jan 2012 that would have been enough to knock the power out for a day but ever since that 2nd Jan storm the network round here has been made much more resilient.......so the lights aren't even flickering. Got the stove lit just in case though.

Hoping you folk in the north & west don't have too tough a time of it!

Just tried playing Mogwai's Mr Beast to gee the wind up a bit but no such luck - ash keys are quivering, that's about it and we're supposed to be getting 60mph gusts this morning.  BBC tv forecasters make you laugh - frowns and dramatic gestures ('oh but they're used to it in the north of Scotland' - used to what exactly? Quivering ash keys? A crisp packet drifting down the gutter? Time to defrost the elk...

Good banter today, I think some may have started the Christmas celebrations early! :drunk:

Pretty wet and windy here this morning in the central isthmus, nothing out of the ordinary though.

Surprised there wasn't more snow around yesterday, I just got torrential sleet on the higher parts of the M74.

Dugs (wee king charles spaniels) were not keen about going out for a walk.

Looked at Mrs SS like ''Are you mad?".

Nothing here to justify the Met yellow level weather warning, the wind was much stronger earlier in the week yet that didn't merit a warning being issued. Very odd....

At the risk of complaining about the weather again - it's absolutely wild out! Rain is beyond torrential! Dark and blowing a gale!

Perhaps they'd like to join this one in helping put up the tinsel?  cat again.jpg   Then they can all enjoy the King Tubby together...

Well thankfully it is now a lot calmer and we managed to make it through the morning with no power cuts! ( I shouldn't have said that! ) Still a bit blustery but nothing to write home about. So now we get ready for the arrival of Conor in a few days. If he's as bad as Babs there won't be much to worry about here although I do believe that some parts of Skye have no power. Bummer for them!

A bit windy here in Aberdeenshire but nothing at all out of the ordinary. It's stayed mainly dry too. Outside chance of some snow falling overnight or early tomorrow.

Apart from a slight squall around 2pm? nothing too bad here.   5.6c/4.4 with a maximum gust of 46mph.   1000mbs and rising so I suppose the worst is over?

Greetings from Carrbridge. Journey up was fairly wild at times but in reality a fairly standard Scottish winter storm.

Wet snow on the A9 drumochter. 2C here and a chance of some wintry stuff overnight.

Beer time.
