Looks like western parts of Leeds had torrential rain, but thankfully not here.

Yay, we had some much needed rain here last night.
10 minutes of torrential and then a further 20 mins of steady rain.
It has still only amounted to a Quarter of an Inch in the rain gauge though.
Sunny now but a little fresher.

The weather front decaying as it heads towards south Yorkshire area so not much in the way of rain at the moment by the looks of it. North Yorkshire looks okay though for needed rain.

Not so much decaying, its just weaker on its southern side. Lancaster-York north should get a good few hours. We look to just get an hour of modest rain at most.

Hopefully it feels fresher afterward though.

Fake rain here, radar looks quite serious but it's halfway across and not tripped 0.2mm yet.
Surfaces are damp but evaporation is taking it away again.

Yes Hull was top spot today around 32c I've read.

Topped out at 30.5c at home today which is highest temp recorded since I got my weather station ?

Higher than I thought today as forecast was 28c so that was underdone....

I noticed that - there has even been a decrease in temps but as you say nothing on the radar. Maybe something is developing above.

On the latest radar frame, a shower has broken out SE of Leeds, just a mile or 2 away from here.

Could you have ever imagined where people would be wanting just even a small shower to happen. This really is a very odd situation we are in, and if the models are correct no real end in sight for at least a few weeks.

    A Thunderstorm warning for Friday.
Flooding a risk with the very baked hard ground.

On shower watch today i am reasonably hopeful for at least a 5 minute affair. It looks like the dead front has pepped up a bit as the day has gone on albeit it's still the other side of the Pennines.

Thunder warning is interesting for two reasons..

    1) The warning is for 30mm in an hour where you get them.

    2) GFS seems to think the risk is thursday rather than friday.

Tracking on radar and the showers have really developed west of the Pennines in the past 2 hours (red echos). The angle of track means that if we get anything today, it will probably be between 4-6.

We saw a few splashes of rain yesterday PM but not enough to dampen the washing out on the line.

The warning for Friday is literally a mile on toward Halifax so I might get to sit and watch storms whilst in the dry?

The again the Beeb forecast shows rain over us all day!

Yorkshire and Humber upgraded to a level 3 heatwave alert

Current watch level: Level 3 - Heatwave Action

Issued at: 08:27 on Wed 25 Jul 2018

There is a 90 % probability of heatwave conditions between 0900 on Monday and 0900 on Saturday in parts of England.

Very hot and humid weather is forecast to become established across much of England during Wednesday and Thursday, then continuing into Friday. Whilst most areas will see a period of hot weather, the highest temperatures are expected across eastern parts. It will also be feeling humid, with temperatures remaining warm overnight. Temperatures are currently expected to peak across eastern parts on Friday, with the chance of some exceptionally hot weather developing.

However this is also likely to be lead to thunderstorms developing. At the same time less hot weather will spread east into western parts. The hot weather and thunderstorms are then expected to gradually clear east overnight into Saturday. During the weekend, slightly less hot weather will move across all parts of the UK, with temperatures likely falling below heat health thresholds. However, there remains the potential for further very warm weather.

An update will be issued when the alert level changes in any region. Alerts are issued once a day by 0900 if required and are not subject to amendment in between standard issue times. Note that the details of the forecast weather are valid at the time of issue but may change over the period that an alert remains in force. These details will not be updated here unless the alert level also changes, the latest forecast details can be obtained at the following link: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/#?tab=map

If the GFS is correct then it's drought over.

Rain tomorrow, friday, saturday and sunday.

Met Office say Friday and Saturday only.

    Reached 30 ° C again here as I type.
Looks very sure we are soon to see some heavy rain though.
Hope so, its been a lot of work watering the allotment lately.
Just a little concerned about possible sudden flooding  though ..

Stronger development in the last 30-60 minutes. Leeds has an inbound shower with red on radar.

    • Cool Showerfest continues for the next week. Hints of a change beyond that?

With the jet stream close to the south and low pressure nearby over the next 7 days, expect showers or longer spells of rain over many areas, staying cool too, with temperatures below average. But hints of something drier and more settled arriving next weekend. View the full blog here
