Just to say that this is my first post on here so hello to everyone in Yorkshire and surrounds.

I'm looking forward to developments overnight and eagerly anticipating this visit from the 'polar low'.

I can't see that blob in the North Sea being just it, there must be something else brewing for there to be an Amber warning, does it grow in strength as it gets closer does it create more unstable flow from the East not sure to be honest?

Its so far looking like the HIRLAM was right its a lot more wide spread than predicted yesterday, but is moving fast. Way its progressing does mean everywhere in the region should get at least a cm of snow, with the Pennines and the Whitby part of the North Yorkshire Coast the sweet spots.

Just to point out one is the 'forecast' and one is the actual of whats happening out in the North Sea. If the actual doesn't turn out to be like the forecast don't be disappointed. At the moment, the low hasn't developed as per the forecast. Its a smaller affair, but with heavier snow in it. Just watch it and see what happens, currently looks on track for Borders/Newcastle area and won't give as much widespread snow as the forecast. Just wait and see what actually happens.

It's also worth bearing in mind that UK radars don't cover all of the North Sea so even if the low is more developed, we won't see it on Netweather's rainfall radar. A lot of it will still be out of frame.

This link gives the South West Norway radar.  Appears snow stretches up to there rather than just the thin bit on uk radar.

Expecting a good dumping here tomorrow morning, thereafter I expect further showers giving accumulations. We normally do pretty well up here in these sort of setups. Good luck to everyone ?? Hope everyone gets abit of snow at some point over the next week ?

Hello, welcome to the best regional thread in the business (don't need to tell you that though).

A couple of things...

1) newcomers buy the first round

2) it's not a polar low

:p:)

Interesting.  Euro4 12z looks fairly closely aligned to the current image.

I tend not to pay much attention to the ever changing warning areas, they won't know for sure who is going to get what and the edges of the warning areas won't be literal. Met Office frequently get it wrong, we are in the lap of the snow gods :-)

I share your frustrations mate, all we've had today is really light stuff that left barely a dusting. Not sure what later tonight and tomorrow will bring. Those bbc new graphics are awful for seeing snow showers. Time will tell I guess.

It's very annoying to see areas to the west of us do better then us when it's coming from the east! My fear is we get a cm or 2 from this and that will be it. Been like 8 years since had any proper snow!

I will happily take the cm or two you mention. I will be amazed if we get that going by what's happened so far for us.

BBC has heavy snow arriving in Leeds between 3am and 5am with showers after. Met Office has it arriving later between 6 and 10am, with a brief hour of light snow  in between.
