APERGE has the same pennine snow too. I'm baffled as to what it is expecting.

Could that be down to orographic enhancement?

So the latest calendar forcast says..

Showers slowly fizzing out with a few isolated showers more north but nothing of any worth same moving into Friday showers increase slightly for North and West Yorkshire in the afternoon on Friday.

So why do we have a Amber warning that has just been inssued for further significant snow until 10am tomorrow? Unless they’re using a old Model? I’m increasingly suspicious the met office have been late to issue the warning and there covering themselves because in all honesty it should of been issued before anyone thought about the early commute to work etc.

That Amber Warning is a conundrum!  I know it covers North of here but how are they expecting 15cms - 25cms fresh snow between now and tomorrow even over high ground?

I could understand if the wording of the warning suggests the majority of that will fall in Scotland or the far North of England but it specifically says the warning area had been moved South so that now some parts of West Yorkshire are in the firing line?  :cc_confused:

Yes, I have a feeling it's for what has already gone. Similarly the Amber over Lincolnshire yesterday only appeared at the backend of the event. Too much reliance on computers and not enough actual observations/forecaster input I would imagine.

Convection line must be further south they probably think

The revised yellow and amber warnings maybe due to the initial front being further north. It may also be that as this pushes into Lincolnshire, North Nottinghamshire and S Yorkshire it may intensify as it meets the very cold air and strong SE breeze aiding convection. Not sure, but a possibility.

I think its proven during the last 3days anything is possible.. lol.

I think we need to be looking south east, all that precipitation near east anglia and more out in the north sea (from looking at sat24) is coming our way. As some have said could be some orographic enhancement of precipitation so pennine areas could do very well.  What we are seeing is instability and precipitation breaking out ahead of storm emma like onion skins spreading out north, with us though I think when they reach us it will aid convection in the north sea and feed lots of showers in but all associated with the onion skins lol

If the warning is based on fresh data then all I can imagine is that the area of snow that is now moving away West will backbuild over the Pennines again later on (orographic snowfall I believe is the phrase?!)  :D

Can't see that stiff to our SE amounting to anything much!

Jesus we have enough snow in kirklees and snow just piling on drifts. Think countryside areas will have drifts of several feet. You got a link for sat24 thank you :)

Like look at that narrow line of precipitation between lincoln and derby, we will see lines like this spreading our way and hopefully enhancing.

So maybe more organised lines of snow?

exactly, tonight has streamers written all over it, like I say we should see lines of snow developing further south pushing north but at same time picking up moisture from the sea (sort of aiding the potential) And orographic enhancement is possible..
