Dark at 5pm, and now cold rain with the temperature just 5.1c. Can someone please explain why some folk find these conditions something to look forward to ?

The lead up to winter. Cosy nights in, wrapping up warm against the cold, anticipating the possibility of building a snowman or sledging with the kids. Maybe even the holy grail of a white Christmas....

Really has been cold here with increasingly brisk wind. After beautiful crisp frosty start clouds have built and rain started about 4pm. Looks a chilly next 3 days before slightly milder weather arrives Thursday but not what i call mild as only looking at temps of about 9 -10 for SE.Wrap up warm folks winter is coming :cold:

Anything under about 75/80% I struggle to get excited about really. But I think last year it took till deep into December to get off 0 so I'm happy with some positive movement!

Got a 24% snow risk here on the North Norfolk coast at an elevation of only 56ft! This winter seems like its actually going to deliver for us if this carries on as it gets colder..

5C tomorrow brrrr. :cold: My snow risk for tomorrow night is now back to 0% chance :wallbash::cray: It's a shame the temperature is predicted to rise as the band pushes through. Any chance we could see a few flakes on the leading edge? Temp predicted to be around 3/4C when it arrives, not sure about dew points.

I could be wrong (and probably am) because I have next to no meteorological knowledge, but I think that the 'wintry showers' are possible because although the temperature is quite high, the dew points are fairly low. For instance, it's 7.6C here, but the dew point  is just 1C. So I guess any precip here could have a wintry element to it if it were to arrive now. I'm probably speaking rubbish though, thinking I understand it when I don't!

Feeling very chilly today in that wind, only reached 8C here. Too much cloud for my liking though it has stayed dry.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
