Great post Joe

Cannot argue with that analysis

I would expect the METO text wording later to read something like wintry Showers

Turning to snow showers later

I know the meto apps are pretty crap, but Wirral has it's first snow symbols appearing for tmr eve! Not often you see them, so we must have a chance!

Great chart that. Gives people the answers they need. I'd be just happy seeing snow showers falling, if they don't stick fair enough as I know we need the perfect setup here on the coast. A few miles inland should do well then. :good:

I'm 29mi east of the Mersey *as the crow flies* but at 210m asl i'm hoping for a slightly more westerly component to the wind, would give frequent showers in around the Buxton area that would accumulate to a good few cm over surfaces.

Looks good?

Considering what the potential was at one point I would say no.... I expect more downgrades but that would depend on what happens down south now.

I still expect to see snow and get a  dusting thou.

Some thicker clouds coming in from the Mersey. Still dry and very windy.

Not long until 12z's start rolling out, fingers crossed for a last minute upgrade.

Im very worried that the met office symbols are consistently bone dry for here, i think its going to be one of those where the showers are off the coast of cumbria and north lancs while pummeling the south of the region.

And an update from the 12z GFS

6am tomorrow:-

12pm:-

Rhgfs243.gif

Rhgfs248.gif

3pm:-

Rhgfs273.gif

Rhgfs278.gif<--- notice the colder air digs in at this point, with plenty of showers still.

6pm:-

Rhgfs303.gif

Rhgfs308.gif

 - precipitation eases back slightly, but now the cold air digs in properly. Overnight snow eases back towards the coast.

Friday 6am!

Rhgfs423.gif

Rhgfs428.gif

 - organised precipitation moves down from the north - quite a strong chance of snow away from the coast, clearing to the Midlands Friday morning.

===

So all in all the 12z backs up the 06z output. Too mild for snow tomorrow morning (away from the hills), then the cold air digs in 3pm turning showers to snow. Showers dying back to the coast tomorrow evening, before (in a new twist) more organised snow (with rain near the coast) moves in later in the night from the north.

I've spent the last hour remaking my DIY wetbulb thermometer  which is now operational and looking good. Think I'll do hourly reports tonight for the benefit of those in this area.
