Dear Snow, Why are you just going to Staffordshire? All they have over there is oatcakes and speed cameras. Much nicer here, why haven't we seen you for 4 years? Remember December 2010? We had so

Yes looks like the band is about to cross the M1! Hopeful it will reach the central/west Mids, not sure how much energy it will have retained by that point though.

Coldest since 2013 for certain, but not a lot of snow at all, like most here, just a few flakes blowing in the wind, had a lot more snow In the cold shot back in Mid Jan, hopefully we can get atleast a slight covering or dusting tonight or tomorrow but maybe that's asking to much with this cold spell, but time will tell as everything is nowcasting pretty much.

Gradually turning to moderate snow here now, with 10p sized  flakes.

    No real sign of settling.

It has followed on from a 2hour  spell of sunny intervals, Could it be an effect of a bit of convection?

    MIA

Edit - it made it to 50P sized flakes for about 1 mimute which did settle.

However is now brightening up a bit, and  has almost stopped.

    Definitely turning more showery now..

Just over 1cm of snow lying here after a moderate snow shower for the last 40 minutes or so. Weak sunshine, and a few flakes drifting down, at the moment. Temp' is -0.5c.

Overnight temps are the lowest since earlier this week.  Daytime temps the coldest since January 2017.

Snow is as heavy as it was last July.

    What cold spell?  :D

Looks like another area of light snow is moving in from the Wash area, moving slightly more north than the last area over more of the central midlands and north midlands possibly..

Hopefully hit us about 4pm so a better chance of settling. Hate falling snow which doesn't settle, such a waste!

Yes a more organised area of snow is heading in the right direction to hit the West Mids region.  a few green spots appearing in the precipitation.  Its always a pleasure to see snow dropping out of the sky. This is certainly more interesting then the cold and cloudy forecasts of the last few days.

But as is usually the way, the system is losing its bite and breaking as it approaches from the east.  Shame.

We've essentially had moderate snow all day here in Grantham, lovely to look at from inside but wouldn't like to be out in it.

Odds on for a decent dusting here overnight as temps dive.

(Posting here aswell as I'm original from Newark and spent all my years in this thread!)

Edit: The mornings dusting which had retreated has now in fact returned on grass on other favoured surfaces in the last 20 minutes or so.
