something for high elevation members to get their teeth into eg @WillinGlossop that feature moving in Saturday into Sunday, surprises there I feel

Even last nights rain/sleet left 5-6cm over the tops of the hills here from 450m upwards and over the snake pass.... overnight does look to possibly hold a bit of interest....

The weather has given us all most of us a dry January

Not for here. 120mm fell at my station, ties in nicely with that block of 125 - 150% of the average.

No surprise to see south eastern parts of England having a colder than average January.

Early next week

Cold easterly winds
Frosty mornings
Snow flurries

Seems promising for next week, maybe tomorrow will change though to say 'less cold SE'ly' next week with snow only to hills

Friday night into Saturday could be the time to watch for snow showers "could be a covering over the hills in Yorkshire for example"

Yes, as expected less cold S/SE'ly mentioned, but he says later next week, but seemed to say less cold over weekend of 11th-12th

I think maybe he meant briefly less cold on Sunday due to that low pressure and then colder again next week, before possibly becoming less cold again later?

Yes, even the Met Office are forecasting my village as having a max of 7C on Monday now.  I give up!!!

Mind you, there's enough time for things to change still, but I've lowered my hopes compared to yesterday.

How do you know that? How can you say for certain?

I don't know why you think the winters of the 1990s were all glory, I must have told you dozens of times already that overall were not that special. They had their moments but winters such as 1989-90, 1991-92, 1992-93, 1994-95, 1997-98, 1998-99 were mediocre to forgettable.

Looking forward to seeing some warmer charts and light winds so I can get out on the boat and get some much needed fishing in, really can't be fussed with this up and coming cold blip more interested in the hunt for the Azores high. Very frustrating winter but the reality is the climate is warming and prolonged cold and snow are a thing of the past. Some in the model thread literally live there lives in the hunt for snow yet are disappointed 99% of the time. If they want cold and snow then migrate to Siberia.
