If I were you I would head just 4 and 1/2 miles down the road to a place called Grims Dyke/ Old Redding. It has extensive views to the south as far as the North Downs of Surrey. It would be an ideal spot for watching the storms which appear to be heading ing up from the south at the moment.

I used to live locally and would often head there to watch storms.

Would that be 'Harrow View' by any chance?

Skies to the south here going darker and darker, lots of undulatus asperatus appearing ahead of it.

Unfortunately unable to keep a trained eye on it but just managed to glimpse a CG from just behind the Shard (as you look)

Hah exceptionally good views from there but can be a little dodgy if some of Harrow's less respectable clientele hang out there

If I were to have an excursion out this afternoon, does anyone have any recommendations of vantage points in the North Downs which I could head towards?

Went for a 40-minute walk just now, the two images below show development to the north-west - left is earlier and right is later.  Convection edging closer to the coast.

Had a bit of a storm earlier, now its clearing up and I think the sun might be out shortly.

Can I get excited about anything for later perhaps?

It's got dark here but the weather station still has the sun symbol out and no shower activity:cc_confused:

One for the more experienced guys out there. Will storms develop more west of the current band? Southampton/ Portsmouth way?

Looking to head out after work.

Thanks

Gone incredibly calm here (brixton). No further rumbles of thunder just yet but the breeze has dropped to virtually nothing and temp definitely dropped a few degrees these past few minutes. Increasingly dark towards my south. Calm before the storm (my favourite part)?

Near constant rumbles to S and SW of Croydon, every few seconds, looks like some hail judging by radar returns, very active storm

Better off on Harrow On The Hill, less likely to get jumped, although the trees do increase your risk of getting struck by lightning.
