Partly cloudy skies and a frost here to start. It should turn increasingly sunny from the north east as we go through the day.

Dry and bright start here with only a thin, high cover of cloud. Can just about see some blue sky through it. Very gentle breeze. Got down to 1C overnight but up to 4.4C now.

Alex Deakin just put up some graphics with the UK preliminary results for Winter 2015/16. No surprise to see that it was the warmest winter on record (going back over 100 years) for England & Wales. He said it was down to El Nino, global warming and "other factors" and the Met Off would publish more detailed analysis in due course.

With this overall back-drop, it's little wonder that this winter's marginal snow events have ended up the wrong side of marginal for us. :(

A few light rain showers are drifting through here at the moment. A lot of cloud at the moment along with these, a typical shallow convection type of day though not the stratusfests that are often associated with easterlies

Has actually been quite pleasant in the sun when you are out of the wind.

What are your thoughts regarding the showers that are popping up off the coast turning more wintery as temps start to drop?

Judging from the lack of posts today I'm guessing probability of snow is low/non existent for today/tonight?

Most probably can't be bothered to expend what energy they have left hopecasting

Looking at the radar there would be a 'Kent streamer' going on at the moment - but unfortunately the temperature is nowhere near low enough for the line of showers to be snow.  And as the sun goes down and the temp drops, so the showers will fizzle out. :nonono:

Been dry as a bone here in Suffolk this last two days. Lot's of blue sky around this afternoon, but the wind picked up so despite a max temp of 7C it's felt very cold out and about.

It's looking frustratingly like a 'close but no cigar' situation down there in Kent this afternoon/evening!! The 'streamer' is still going at the mo and the 18.00 radar is now showing it as sleet. Looking at WunderMap temp readings for that locale it's showing they've dropped to 3C - 4C. If only those showers would last into the evening....

Last shower was indeed sleety here. But yes, frustrating that there are currently no more showers to follow looking at the radar.

Cold windy day here, some rain this morn. Very poor.

Lovely sunset on Southend seafront though!

Roll on Spring...

Was under that train of showers earlier this afternoon in the Ashford area, was certainly of a sleety nature walking in it. Sad times when we get a NEly with seemingly reasonable T850s (-6 to -7C) and a dew point of 0C at the time and all it can muster is some sleet. Surface temp of 6C was just too much.

A fair number of showers appearing on the radar now, perhaps one or two could get a dusting overnight?

Have to agree completely , I have seen this kind of set up deliver many inches of snow, but sadly that was January and a degree or 2 makes all the difference, having said that more inland areas could well get a smattering of snow, I'm guessing around 20 - 30 miles inland minimum as it is currently just too warm near the coast. Interestingly the BBC SE and national forecaster completely omitted /admitted to any chance of precipitation of any type over night in the SE even though it has been present for 3 - 6 hrs by now. While I have no belief in a "snow cut off date " if you look at the facts the chance of snow rapidly decreases once March starts from around an 8% chance at the start of March to around 2% once you get into mid March. So if nothing happens within the next 7 - 14 days it really is highly unlikely to do so. Having said that I do remember walking to the local church in the snow at Easter with it up to the top of my wellies and recently driving to the airport at Easter through a snow storm. So all is not lost....

^ Nice to read that the showers in Kent turned to snow before dieing out last night. I'm presuming nothing settled as the ground temp hadn't dropped sufficiently before they fizzled. :nea:

Another very pleasant start here with a clear blue sky and a frost on the lawn. Down to -0.8C overnight. I've enjoyed the last week of frosts and plenty of sunshine. Even this weekend wasn't too bad in the end, with the expected stratusfest breaking up to give sunny spells. :)

If you don't like wind and rain, look away now....

Feeling warm comparatively today, already 6.7 and the sun feels nice and warm. Some clouds that look like convective showers could popnup later.
