A few spots of rain here full cloud cover but main band does not seem to be getting much closer . . . .

Snow later? I doubt it somehow far too warm right now and too much cloud for temp to drop quick enough. I might be proved wrong . .  .

Cloud not an issue... The cold is due to undercut the front (go under) remember:

warm air: rises

cold air: falls

And so the battle begins, good sign is slowing, allows daylight to drop and get the continental air flow drawing up mixing in, sweetspot still undecided.

I notice Calais are forecast Heavy Snow tomorrow ;)

True but current cover keeping temps up so cold air would take longer to make a difference . . . could be wrong of course. Me being just at sea level will obviously also make a difference to what I see

Ill try explain...

front.thumb.jpg.fad119a3ce29f33764860209

The blue lines indicate cold air

The red line is warm air (hot in some places)

The yellow line is our pesky warm air currently mixed within the front (an occluded front)

What we have is some warmer air that needs mixing out and this happens (or might happen) when the cold air behind the front (shown by the blue arrows) over takes the front..

Because the front is coming up against the block to the east it is causing it to slow and possibly stall somewhere, allowing the cold air behind it to catch out up and mix out the warmer air.

Almost "squeezing" the warm air out..

Just finished a teleconference with various airlines, the Met Office and airports. The highest risk is for Luton and Stansted (and the area in between, sort of M1 to M11) for 1-2cm overnight through til about 6am. No significant accumulations are expected anywhere else in England and whatever falls is most likely be rain or sleet. The greater risk is for low cloud bases and poor visibility associated with rain/drizzle/sleet.

I'd say the area defined by a box shaped Luton-Stansted-Cambridge-Milton Keynes has the highest risk of seeing snow which will settle.

Interesting upgrade from GFS 12z, now shows some settling snow in the area.:)

Not sure if people can see it where they are, but if you look up into the sky you can see the snow falling from the clouds (turning to rain as it moves through the warmer air on the ground)

It's pretty cool, but annoying at the same time!

my neighbours now think i'm mad almost on my back seeing if i can see that too, lol

If we had a couple of small mountains in the SE, say just 1,000m asl, we would get snowed in all the time in Winter in these marginal situations. All the snow lovers would  be buying houses right up the top!:cold-emoji:
